Thanks Bonnie, This is picture to remember..... Thank you laurie for being there wen I need u, and for bringing Mortie into my life and into the SAFE fold of kindness and caring.. This has been extremely difficult time for me with the decision we all hate to make.. Mort is not well, he is slowly going downhill healthwise. He has internal issues that wont get any better or make him any younger and healthier with vet care. His blindness has also become a burden on him. His safety zone is all memorized and he spends 95 % of his time in his stall. In fact last night while cleaning out his stall he became a victim of his own blindness. There are two doors to the stall, one that leads into the barn, and one on the outside wall of the stall. I leave the outside stall door open for Mort to go out and wander or get water. Last night Mort was out walkng around while I was shoveling out his stall . I shut the outside door to keep him out , but forgot to mention it to Mort. Mort decided he wanted to come back into the stall, and apparently bumped into the door. ( I was looking the other direction ), I turned to see what he was doing and he was down on the ground and at the time appeared to be rolling. My concern was the rail fencing next to him, hoping he wouldnt get a leg caught under it. He didn't immediately rise up and stand but stayed down, breathing heavily and letting little groans out. I took off his mask and kept him calm speaking softly to him....( As I was doing this , I had many many thots go thru my mind...) when his breathing got back to normal, and I got a handful of grain to coax him up he did manage to rise and come back onto the stall.... As I reconstructed the episode in my mind, I realized that Mort had actually 'clocked' himself in the head so hard it knocked him off balance in the hind end, and he fell hard. Mort was back to his own self this morning, but in the long run nothing has changed for Mort.... With extreme saddness in my heart and soul, Mort will be pending the " bridge' soon.......... I 'heart' you , RocknMoon

oooh nooooo I've been loving his updates since I first joined the board... this can't be an easy time for you but know he has many angels and good thoughts on his side that no matter what the outcome, he's well loved, respected and has made an impact on the horse world, especially in our little corner of it! Best of all, he has your heart...always!!

I am so sorry. Mortie (Rocky) has lived life as a breeding stallion, and didn't know what it was like to be loved til SAFE and others got involved. He's been one loved horse since! His whole life has been all about breeding, living in a stall with a small paddock on a steep hillside. I totally respect your dedication to Mortie's life, and letting him go while he still has his dignity and love for life. Thank you for taking such good care of him. He'll never be forgotten by many.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Thank you for all you've done for him. I know i've appreciated it, filling in that bit of history for my own horse.
As the owner of his grandkid, Cassie, please let me know if you ever need anything...even just a picture of our gal, sassy as ever.

Morpheous' rescue took place before I joined this board, but I have kept up on his updates, and he is such a sweet guy. He is very lucky to have found a loving home with you, and though this is an extremely painful for you; what a loving wonderful thing you have found the courage to do by ending his pain and preserving his dignity. My heart goes out to you at this time!

This is very hard on me, so I can only imagine how difficult it has been on Peggy. When I went to visit a couple of weeks ago, it was with a very heavy heart. I knew it would likely be the last time I got to visit with the grand old man. And he is that. I know it is very hard to make the decision to release an animal from your life. It takes a certain amount of courage and selflessness to make that decision. The right decision is not always easy. In fact sometimes it is the most difficult decision. I support Peggy, as I am sure we all do. She is thinking of Morph and the difficult winter that will await him and she wants to make sure he does not have to face the possibility of pain and anxiety associated with his failing body.
I have loved Morph from the first time I laid eyes on him on the CBER site. I am so thankful to Peggy for taking him into her life, because I was not able to do so. Although he would of always had a safe place with me if needed. I did not have to worry about him after he was with Peggy. She adored him and he loved her too.
I will certainly miss that sweet face.
Peggy, you know I am here for you if you need me.

Hi Peggy!! I haven't seen you in so long! great great photo! ;D Thaz cuz ur waaay up there on ur mighty fine 'ride' ... and I'm not as tall as I used to be..I was standing on a box to be as tall as Laurie in the picture.... I have decided, and found out that where I live I can do this, Morpht will be placed just outside my pasture fence line but on my property . It will be away from any rain run off areas and on the opposite side of the property from the Pond.. ( putting that into words makes it seem so sterile ) But the area is where the deer pass thru and a clearing amoungst the trees.. ( Roots wont be a problem ..) I was sitting in the barn tonight after bringing in the other 3 and feeding, etc... All the lights were on, but I was on the hay pile x from Morts stall in semi darkness. He was munching away and I called out his name.. He started looking around, while I kept saying his name...As soon as I started to wave my right arm and caught his attention knew where I was... Ive been giving him a handfull of grain in the am/pm, so now if I dont get it THERE in a timely manner, he bangs his front hoof against the wall, or stomps his feet... The decision is hard, but I would rather remember these little things he still does, than remember finding him down alone... You are all wonderful people Mortie and me

I heard that he is gone. You have my sympathy. You know I went through the same thing 2 years ago - having Sunline lose enough sight that she got scared and was a danger to herself. It's sad but you made the right choice. I would not want to be a prey animal living in fear because I couldn't see. I hope Morph and Sunny are in another place now where they can see and gallop again.

Even though I knew this was coming, I am still crying. Thank you so much for all the love and care you gave him these last two years. Here are a few pictures from the day we went to get him before he was to be taken to the Eugene auction. This is at my house. This picture below was always one of my favorites. He would rummage through his hay tub, looking for the good stuff. RIP Morpheous, Mortie AKA Rock N Moon You were a grand old man.
