I will try to get some close ups of him next time I go. He is a big ham so it shouldn't take to long. I remember one time when I went out to Clayton's Hawkins was lying down relaxing, but had his head up and my little one Lotty and Clayton's little one Jamie were standing with him (his head was about as long as they were tall) and petting his face. It would have been the perfect picture for a t-shirt. He is such a lovey boy

I was trying to go for a goofy photo of him, but underestimated the length of his face. Maybe you ought to take a vacation up here to meet him - but wait until mud season is over.

The two folks in the photos above are indeed Clayton and his wonderful wife Gwen...many blessings to those two and their 3 lovely children!

nice to put a face to the names. I have really appreciated all that they have done for Hawkins and the other horses in their care.

Hawkins arrived at his new home today. He is resting comfortably in his new stall and shouting out his arrival to all the other 'residents'. ;D Watch for updates on Hawkins on the Painted Acres website: www.paintacres.com

I emailed Mary from their home site and asked for some new pictures of Mr. Hawkins (the ham). It will be so weird not seeing his big ole goofy face peeking in the barn for a carrot when I go to Clayton's. I will have to look up Goldendale and see how far that is from us. If it's close enough, maybe Maddy and I can swing by and bring him a carrot .

Sadly Hawkins was put to sleep, although he was quite old and it was probably his time. RIP old fellow. Thanks for reminding me, I will move this to the In Memory section.

Is there any information about how he passed? Were they with him? Has anyone told Clayton? Oh my goodness, I hope he wasn't alone, he didn't like to be alone. He was a gentle soul and I will always remember him. The pictures I have held in my mind when I think of Hawkins are 3. 1 is when he had to be quality control for Clayton and I when we were working on the shelter one day. He kept walking up next to the ladder to inspect everything Clayton was doing. 2 is the same over and over when I would come into the barn and his big ole head and gentle eyes would be stuck out and waiting to be loved and of course given a carrot that he knew he was going to get when I walked by 3 is the more special of my memories as he was laying down in the sun and Lotty and Jamie, both of them about shy of 3 feet tall were able to walk right up and love on his big huge face and he just loved it. He kept still for their love waited for them to walk away before getting up. He will stay in my thoughts always. Good bye Hawkins and I am glad to have crossed paths with you.
