Clayton told me all about Hawkins' quirks and the story telling was even more entertaining than the pix. I just added Clayton to my list of people to get to know. He sounds like buddy material to me!

I especially like the picture of Hawkins having the 'cat scan'. "Now, be still please. This will only take a moment." Geez, I can hardly wait to get the bill for that one.

Is it maybe time for Hawkins to move to the adopted thread?

Some info' that might be of use to Hawkins if he does, indeed, have Cushings. Yahoo group on Cushings management groups.yahoo.com/group/EquineCushings/Google Cushings and Chasteberry - a reportedly successful use of the herb in treating Cushings

RDR- great info on that link!
There was a very senior horse at my barn a few years ago that had full Cushings that benefitted greatly from Source Focus SR. It's a mineral supplement for senior horses with good probiotics etc. Anyway- this horse looked very poor before the Focus SR and within 2 months of being on it, look like a different animal! I can't say it truly helped his Cushings but it did help the off shoots of the Cushings (poor weight etc).
I am happy to send a tub of it to Hawkins and keep sending tubs of it if it helps him at all. Least I can do for this special guy!

I'm hoping that we can get the Cushings test done soon, if it hasn't already.

I hope that Gwendie's comments about getting all the horses out of their place (On the CBER board) does not include Hawkins. How sad that personal attacks have put these horses back in the postion of having nowhere to go.

Hey, all! Hawkins' Cushings test came back positive. He was given a prescription for meds and Gwendie reports that the Vet is optimistic at this point. He will continue with his senior diet and the extra love and should be feeling better in no time!!

Did the vet recommend a diet change for Hawkins? I know the Carrolls have been having to sweeten his grain with sweet feed to get him to eat it (or they did for a while, not sure if that's still the case). I'm no Cushings expert but I thought sugar was something you had to avoid.
