Well...This morning Lady was back to her spooky, flighty, jumpy, uptight, ding bat self. Guess I was just being too hopeful . Focus just looks at her like she's nuts. I wonder how she will be this afternoon....

Thanks! Here are some photos of Focus. He has gained some weight, still not what I want. He also needs lots of muscle. I dont think he has ever been treated very nicely. Whenever I come at him with something like a rope in my hand he pins his ears. He tries to walk away from people, like he doesnt want to be around them. So I spent about 15min today just giving him loves and petting him. He seemed to open up a little bit and even gave me some horsey smooches . We are going to get a vet out to look over his leg problem (which I am 99% sure is DSLD) and check his teeth, I think he needs them done. So thats the start.

I can definitely see the weight improvement with Focus (from the first time I went out and saw him). Good Job

Thanks! I am so glad you noticed a difference. I guess since I see him everyday I dont notice it and I was starting to get worried . He was such a good boy today! I think he gets jealous when I work with Lady .

I worked with Lady yesterday, she was very good . She didnt move when I cinched her and stood still while I worked on the stirrups and acted like I was going to get on. She was doing really good with the flexing and disengaging hindquarters. Last time Patti was here she worked on ground tieing her, I worked on that some too and she was awesome . Focus was a brat, once I haltered Lady up he went after her . He got really mad, I dont know what his problem was. Fourtanatly no one was hurt! We went to Petsmart today to pick up a headstall, bit, and curb strap for Lady, so now we can get her used to the bit.

I put the bridle on Lady today. She defineatly has never had one on before! She mouthed it like crazy, but by the time I took it off she had stopped . I am going to bridle her everyday until she is totally used to it.

I was ground driving Lady yesterday with the bit!!! Yay!!!
She learned to- flex left and right turn left and right walk forward back up and WHOA!
It took her a few minutes to get the going forward without a person right by her, but once she understood she was perfect. What a good girl!
As for Focus, I really doubt it is as bad as I thought it was. He is sound and can do just about everything. You should see him push Lady around! He hasnt ever hurt her (if he did he would be outta here) but will pin his ears and trot around, then he gets Lady going and they play. Its too funny.

I worked with both Lady and Focus today. Focus was first. He was sooooo unbelieveably FULL of energy . I wanted to try some boots for him on, but he was so wound up I decided to lunge him for a few minutes to relax him. I shortly realized however, that lunging only gets him more hyped (it usually the reverse affect for Lady). But I did manage to find out he is very well trained on the ground. He plays like he is lazy and dumb so he can get away with stuff. Now that he has revealed his well-trained secret, im not letting him get away with anything anymore ;D. He is a SMART horse. I eventually did get one boot thing on, but I put it on too loose. He kept kicking at it, he obviously has never had one on before, he quieted down within a few minutes. Once he was done kicking and just about asleep I took it off. And next was Miss Lady. Talk about B-R-A-T . She was in one of her "leave me alone, I hate you" moods today. I think I dodged two flying back feet at least three times while lunging her. She has been so good lately, I guess I forgot how much of a nutcase she can be. We ended after I had lunged her to where she had broke a tiny bit of a sweat and the kicking out/bucking episodes were minimal. Then I put her blanket on and off she went. I got photos of Focus today, but was so busy just trying to NOT get into trouble with Lady I didnt get any of her. She is looking very good, she has gained probably about 25-50lbs since the last pic. Which is good, she has always been on the thin side. Anyone think he has gained even a little weight??? By the way...I took these photos AFTER lunging and putting the boot on, he was half alseep now . If I had gotten any of him before, it would have been just a blur .

His weight looks really good Angie!! I still am very concerned though about those dropped fetlocks, and strongly encourage you to have a vet evaluate him before continuing with any type of exercise program for him......
