So, we need details on the new horse out with Lady. Did I miss that somewhere? Here is the story I was kind looking thru dreamhorse a week ago, just at things in my area. I found an arab gelding for free. It really suprised me because he was extremely well trained and registered . I called the next morning (I was pretty sure he was sold by now), but he wasnt. She said he could no longer jump due to phyisical issues and he was getting older (he is 15). She has another horse and no longer could keep him. I went to look at him and he was sooooo sweet. We talked it over and I ended up with him. He was trailered here day before yesterday. There is a long story behind why he looks like he does right now. he is about 150lbs underweight, you can see his ribs thru his winter fuzzies . He needs his feet trimmed (we have an app. on the 8th to get them done) and we went out and got him dewormed yesterday (I gave him a small dose tho, I didnt want to overdo it), and the blanket we were borrowing from the owners (we ordered one from Country Supply, but its not going to get here for another week!) has been rubbing him. I took it off yesterday, because I had no idea how long he had even had it on. Turns out it must have been quite a while b/c his shoulders are almost bald and his poor bony hips are starting to loose hair too. So I left it off last night and today. Fourtanatly it wasnt all that cold and at night he is in the barn and has access to it during the day. So he has food in front of him 24/7 and is getting lots of loves. I am sure he will be fine, he acts just fine about it all. Lady loves him, they eat from the same pile (even tho we leave 3 different piles out for them) and they stand next to eachother in their corrals. Eventually, I plan to use him as a light riding horse and a teacher for my little sister. But that is far in the future, he has to be fat and healthy first . I am no arabian bloodline geek or anything but from what Im told, apparently he has some pretty AMAZING bloodlines. Im sure he was a gorgeous show horse. His reg. name is Focus Falaree and the name he came w/ is Focus.

D'oh...I posted and totally forgot to mention Miss Lady!
She is doing very well and enjoying life. She has gotten a lot calmer the last few weeks. I can do just about anything with her. Another trainer came out to take a look at her on Sunday and is going to work with her and get the intial first rides on her because I dont feel quite confident enough to do it on my own. She is the trainer that I liked the most, and Lady took to her too. Usually Lady will hold back her true personality and be spooky around other people. Lady had no problem being the silly horse she is as in strong willed and full of herself, hehe. And she was very not spooky which was good.
Now I have to find an arab tree saddle so I can get to work on the horses! Both of them need the same size and the one I have already is too big for both them and me.
If all goes according to plan, Lady will be a saddle horse before Focus is back into the swing of things!

Lady put on quite a show for me and my sister when I went out to feed tonight. She went on for about 15min straight cantering, bucking, jumping around, all kinds of crazy stuff. It was fun to watch! Coming out of the trees Coming down from a buck Right after jumping the dirt pile Makin a run for it!

Thanks! She sure was full of it! Its really nice to see her out there tearin up the pasture, Focus joined in for a bit too, but he isnt as fast or sure footed as Lady so was having a harder time keeping up. He stands 15 hands and Lady is quite a bit taller than him. So after a few rounds of bucks and galloping he called it quits and went and stood over by me, LOL.

Today was Ladys day! I havent worked her in a while...Probably been about 3 or 4 weeks . I saw a huge change...I dont know if its just her attitude today or if she really is getting better. I caught her pretty quickly (usually she wanders to the end of the pasture before I can catch her) she moved off a little at first but I tried some different approches (I watched a Clinton Anderson video this weekend ;D) and I haltered her within 2 minutes. I lunged her in the corral a little bit, she usually throws a couple bucks and messes around the whole time, trying to canter. Today it took just about all my power to get her to trot, she threw her head around a little (she usually does this) but settled very quickly. Then I saddled her up, which I havent done in a LONG time either. She was very good for it, half asleep actually. I sent her off again and she trotted a little more than before, but not much. I normally gently throw the whip over her while she is moving out to desensitze her to it, and she usually throws a huge fit about it, today she seemed like she didnt even notice. Then we did some flexing, disengaging hindquarters, putting pressure on the stirrups with both my hand and foot (although I didnt actually get on or anything), I jumped up and down while moving the saddle, did some backing, picking up feet, nothing seemed to bother her. I ALMOST had enough confidence to get on her, but I was alone and still a little too nervous. Soooo....I was trying to think of what might have caused her to be so quiet and relaxed today and here is what I have come up with: ~ I havent worked her in quite a while, like 3 or 4 weeks ~Focus is here now, and a very relaxed, calm, well mannered horse ~I have been spending lots of time with Focus and even rode him a little at a walk in front of her (hoping MAYBE something might click in her brain that she needs to be a horse that is rideable...She seemed very interested the whole time, stayed within a few feet of us) ~I have cut her feed on some things and uped others...I took out the Alfalfa Grass, Orchard Grass (I was only giving her a little of each hay though, like a 1/4 of a flake each), horse blend, and decreased her senior. I increased her Grass Hay and Beet Pulp. I did this gradually. Could any of this make a change like this? I couldnt believe how good she was, she usually is bouncing off the walls, spooking at whatever she feels like, etc. It left me very confused In her Christmas Hat!
