She also had her back looked at, she was somewhat sore all over and locked in her sacrum which needs some more work to get it unlocked. I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier; I had Greta worked on today by a wonderful woman who does equine acupressure. It was remarkable to see an instant difference. The next time she comes I would be happy to pay for Vivian, it just might help. I saw Viv today, looking quite content in her new surroundings.....she really is a beautiful horse. She actually looked relieved to be free of "the barnacle"

Hey Mara, there is an update posted in Benny's thread. It went very smoothly, and now Benny and Cactus Flower are best buds.

I just got off the phone with Monica, Viv's trainer for the past month. Viv has been started under saddle and is still green but has a great foundation under saddle. It's clear she was never broke, but she was quite easy to start, and is now able to walk/trot/canter, turn and stop. She was ridden a little bit out on some trails around the property, she was fine with a group and a little nervous alone but still willingly moved forward. She is able to easily pick up her hind feet - and she feels some of Viv's objection to having her hind feet worked with was due to her back being out, and she was worked on by Monica's chiropractor while she was there. Viv will be going to her new home with her adopter Melinda Dunham this weekend. Benny was supposed to go out there a couple of weeks ago, but due to continued weather issues we had to delay that, so he will also be going out there this weekend. After he gets to his new home and settled in he'll be getting the old snip-snip.

Great news about Viv! She is such a pretty mare and had a great disposition when I met her. I'm so happy she's going to her forever home all ready for her new life. Congrats Melinda and Viv!

Here's Viv in her new home. Unfortunately my camera battery died so I was only able to get a couple of photos. We tried to get her and Chalk to check each other out, but Vivian was completely uninterested in all the other horses (including Benny, she never even looked his way!) and Chalk wasn't willing to leave the fenceline from where the other two were, so the introduction was completely uneventful.

Yay! Did Melinda say she would send updates on Viv and Benny?

Absolutely! She called today to tell me that Viv and Chalk finally met up and there was no drama at all, and they were even eating from the same hay pile. She said she'd check in in a week or so. We'll be getting lots of updates, don't worry!

Update on Vivvy, who has a new name now! Hey Jaime, They're both doing great. I re-named Viv--she's now Maya! But Benny is still Benny. They're all getting along with each other in their respective pastures. Maya is putting on some more muscle in her hips, but we're still working on the weight gain with the grain, etc. I'm going to try putting her on some green grass and tying her out a few hours on the grass when I'm at home. Choc has turned out to be more dominant, but generally they're getting along except for a few bite marks that I've seen on them both. Benny is pretty attached to Summer and she's been good with him. She nips at him to keep him in line, but doesn't bite him hard or kick him and has been sharing her hay. I'll try to get some photos for you when we get some nice days. Thanks for checking in! Melinda

Newest update: Hi Jaime,
I'll see if I can get some photos to upload. Maya and Benny look great and with the others are all one big happy family at the moment. I did have Benny gelded about a month ago and he's recovered fine from it. I'm hoping to get some better weather so my neighbor and I can try taking Maya and Choc out for some rides.
If I can get some friends to help, I'm hoping I can get my roundpen built before July is out and then will be able to do some loungeing, etc.
Will try to get you some pics this weekend.
Take care,
Melinda

Here are some recent photos of Maya. She looks really good. Although finances are tight for Maya's owner, we are working with her to enable her to keep Maya, as she truly loves her.
