Original description from CBER while at feedlot:
VIVIAN - This beautiful mare came in with the other broodmares. She too would not let us handle her, she needs a little time but has a very soft eye and is just scared of her new surroundings. She is sound and from her physical condition she must have just had a foal pulled off of her.
Updated Description Feb 2006:
Pregnant QH-type mare in early teens, 15.1-2 hands. Due approx. April-June timeframe, pregnancy confirmed by palpation an ultrasound, live and active foal seen clearly and all appears normal with pregnancy. Up to date on shots, wormed. Had mild lameness on RH fetlock which had no obvious cause and due to her pregnancy did not investigate further. Has not had her feet handled/cared for much, are in good shape but will need training in this area. Unlikely to be broke. In otherwise good health, needs some weight and will be addressing her dietary needs in light of the recent news of her pregnancy. She did have some rain rot due to the extreme wet winter which is being treated.
This mare is halter broke and relatively sweet in general, however she has not had a lot of handling and is a dominant mare - when working on her rainrot she did react aggressively. Will require additional training or an experienced adoptor. We are also seeking a foster situation that is capable of taking on a pregnant mare. Foster needs to be experienced with foaling out as well as this mare's behavioral issues.
If you are interested in fostering this mare please contact us at adopt@safehorses.org.
