Quick little update - she will be staying on at Second Chance for another 4 weeks. Their goal this week is to get tack on her, and pony her out on the trails around their place. While we were there, we helped accustom her to the hose (for baths); she wasn't keen on the wash stall but settled down quickly once she was in their big airy aisle. We did a little bit of round pen work with her after the trainer worked with her. She is giving to pressure - not every time, but close - and she joined up with us. She loves ALL treats, particularly the Berry Goods. We hope to have some more pictures soon...stay tuned.

We all worked on her quite a bit and got almost all the winter hair off of her and she is shedding out the beautiful light bay color she was in the earlier photos of her. Jenny had some success with the roundpen work with her and I have some photos to upload which I will hopefully get up tonight.

Here are the photos! First Katie from Second Chance Ranch worked a bit on just getting her to yield to pressure from the halter: Then some round pen work (note the one ear cocked on Katie, paying attention): Then the join up, which took a few tries today but she caught on eventually: Finally, it was time for some loves and pats for being a good girl (isn't this a precious photo?): Next it was Jenny's turn to try out Basset's new tricks! Jenny working on getting Basset to stretch (she got her to do it quite well, but the camera missed the moment): Working the round pen: Joining up: And finally a conformation photo, look how wonderful she looks!

Wow she is stunning. I agree she could do just about anything! What a wonderful mare, someone will get one beautiful and loving mare with a bright future ahead of her! I am so glad she has been able to go into training, now her poteintal really will be seen. To think back to the feedlot where she wouldnt even let anyone catch her, to now, letting people pet her all over and is enjoying it. It is so wonderful to see the transformation!

Basset, with saddle...Katie left a message that she'd been saddled, and that it was "interesting," but I've been playing phone tag so don't have more info yet.

HC, the "interesting" turned out to be that, when she saw Mike carrying the saddle towards her, she literally physically trembled. But that was a few days ago...now there is news to tell!
He's been on her a few times this week, with western saddle and a halter/lead. She bucked a little the first couple times, but is settling down and doing lots of licking/chewing.
They think she's quite a tomboy - I think she'd make a great little event horse. ;D She certainly is brave!

Update: She now has had all 4 feet trimmed. Mike thinks she needs shoes (she's a bit sore right now) and is almost ready for them - she's had her feet up on the farrier block and will hold them there.
She is now enjoying getting groomed, and is good about picking up all four of her feet. He has just got to her tail, aka "rat's nest."
She now leads very well - will trot alongside, walk alongside, etc -no longer pulls back. She is good at ponying now - her first time out was with a big warmblood, and she did not succeed in her efforts to pull back.
She has anxiety about the saddle itself - if she thinks she is tied while being saddled, she will stand, but if he holds the rope, she will dance around. She does not understand "forward" under saddle yet, but will go around in circles. Teaching her "forward" will be the next big "push".
