Basset settled right in as of yesterday, and watched Katie round-penning a big gelding with GREAT interest. She has a very sweet nicker. We'll update as her training progresses, and soon, some new photos.

cardiand i just spent another day w/ Bassett...and what a phenominal change she shows in just the one week at SCR. would to give both Kati and MIke a big round of applause !!!!!! Bassett does really well , she will now allow a person to actually touch her, pick up her feet ( watch them back ones , still, hehe). Cardi had her following her around at will, ok ther were some treats in a pocket or two. she will stand and stay, stop wen u stop, had the rope all over and under her w/o a fuss...it was really a treat to watch bill work w/ her... more from cardi, the camera girl, sometime soon....
bill clipped her front feet, found that one sole had grown around a rock, they had to pry out. hoof looked pretty good but just weird..
shes shedding like crazy and beginning to lighten up in color....best part is her eyes..theyre learning to turn from hard to ever so soft alot faster these days...

She has come along in leaps and bounds. She is now interested enough in people, and without fear, that she comes up to you, even without treats. She likes to be scratched/stroked on her neck - and when I was giving her an eyebrow scratch and ear scratch, she *groaned* in pleasure. She is learning to trust people, and it is wondrous to see her eye harden/soften/harden/soften in rapid succession, b/c one week ago it was quite hard.
She is doing great w/their approach - we watched him work w/her, and she went from violently kicking out at any touch to her hind legs, to allowing him to stroke down her leg to her hock. She is blanketed, now - and seems to like it, even.
Although still fearful, she is a quick-learner, smart, and will be the kind of partner that every horseowner dreams of once mutual trust is established. I feel very fortunate to watch her bloom. Once I get photos back, I'll add them to this thread.

Ahhh - look at her standing there so relaxed. That is a wonderful sight to see!

She was completely unfazed by the flash of the camera; in fact, she was unfazed by all the horse-eating-monsters around (e.g. hanging blankets, etc). She's a brave one!

Wow, she has surely come a LONG way in just one week! Imagine where she will be in a month! Again, wow, I am amazed! Keep up the good work everyone, this mare should have a forever home in no time! Just wondering but how far into training are they going to go with her? If she stays there long enough will she be started under saddle? Or is this just a ground work type of thing? Either way they are working wonders

Horsecrazi - I think we're kind of taking the approach that Basset will set the pace - ideally we'd like to start her under saddle, but first things first. If she needs more time, we are going to try to arrange it so she can have it.

Sounds good to me. I like the fact they are going with what the horse is more comfortable with, rather than themselves. Sounds like Basset is in a very good place . And a BIG Thank You to all who helped Basset get to her new place and pitched in with everything.
