I owe a HUGE thank you to akoehmstedt and her sister, who came out yesterday to help me with Kokomo and Rhythm. Between the three of us, we effectively got the boys exercised, and we got Kokomo's sheath & incisions washed a bit too. Kokomo is a good boy, and very very sweet, but when he doesn't want to do something, it is not easy to convince him otherwise, or force him to change his mind. He can be very stubborn. Fortunately he is also extremely forgiving, and does not hold a grudge. He gets frightened sometimes, but he is such a sensible little guy that usually all it takes is a little reassurance. Unless you're holding a hose (see my next post...)
but yeah, Amy is awesome, and so is her sister! The help was hugely needed and even more hugely appreciated. Especially in the miserable spitting rain...

You are so welcome. I was just glad we were able to get it done finally. Just let me know when you need more help. We should be in town tomorrow and sunday.

As posted earlier, Mr and Mrs Kea's Crest came out to visit Kokomo. He was timid around them at first, but warmed up very quickly (even before the carrots came out!) They spent a long time with him, petting him and praising him, and telling him how handsome he is. Rhythm, on the other side of the fence, decided that he deserved a bit of affection as well, and was very social with the visitors. And Honeycutt got the chance to show off his soulful eyes and his general handsomeness as well. Mr and Mrs KC were kind enough to help me *try* to get Kokomo to accept the hose...but we were not terribly successful. Nevertheless, they spent a long time trying to show him it was nothing to fear, trying to distract him while I got near enough to gently trickle water on his feet, trying to hold him still as he danced away from the water gently trickling on his feet....sigh. He is a very stubborn little guy. In the end I had to resort to using a syringe to spray water onto his bits, despite his best efforts to kick the crap out of me. *sigh* anyway, I want to thank them for their help, and their visit!! They're nice folks!!

anyway, I want to thank them for their help, and their visit!!Oh, thank you for letting us come out and spend time with the horses. I'm sorry we werent more successful getting him cleaned up but it sounds like you got it worked out with Amy and her sister. I dont know if he's been sacked out with hoses and water much but that part in itself seemed to put him on alert. Add to that having cold water squirting at sore privates and we got ourselves a dancing pony. I can say with confidence it would have taken more than cross ties to get me to hold still for that! Sounds like they must have brought carrots dipped in apple sauce or some other smart trick. ;D Good job! Glad he's all cleaned up now. He is a sweety!

My husband, Les & I got to come out and spend some time with jaybird and the horses this afternoon and we had a wonderful time. We got to help hold the boys while they got their incisions cleaned off, which neither Kokomo nor Rhythm liked very well but I'd have to say Rhythm was by far the better sport about it. Kokomo has figured out that if you back up far enough no one can get behind you so he was quite the challenge. Once that fun stopped & he figured out that we were no longer interested in his back end, he turned into a love bug. Eventually he even let me remove most of the dried blood from his back legs. At first he didn't want anyone messing back there but when he figured out I was really just massaging his legs with a rubber mitt, he submitted pretty well. My husband talked about him all afternoon and even on into dinner randomly interjecting Kokomo comments. I think one quote was "Who ever adopts him is going to get quite a horse!"....hmmmmm...I don't think he's figured out WHY he was invited to come out yet! Anyway, Kokomo certainly has a new fan in my husband. Here's a couple of photos of our day with him Where's the rest of the carrots Mister? I can't believe he just nuzzles in and will stand like this for 5-10 minutes....what a lover! What a very different guy than the description of him on the first day. He's come a LONG way towards trusting people.

Well! Kokomo clearly has some admirers. I knew people would start lining up for this handsome boy. Just dont tell anyone Phoenix looks like he could be his younger brother.

And lastly a video clip of him during his first forced exercise session. This was before his big swell-up/bleeding episode at Bonnie's.
