Well all you Kokomo fans...brace yourself. Mr. Kokomo apparently has hit "puberty" and is now sporting a few............................................WARTS! on his muzzle. He has some fairly large noticable ones on his side upper lip and some faint smattering just below on his lower lip/chin. Ahhh well.... couldn't hold onto perfection forever....He'll just have to ride them out until they leave.
AND, everybody got their tootsies trimmed EXCEPT Mr. Kokomo who was having absolutely none OF IT. I think maybe Daphne was able to maybe rasp 3 or 4 times on 2 feet and that was it. Kokomo needs a regular routine of leg and foot handling. He was being very "coltish" - rearing, leaping, invading space that was not his to invade and pretty much being a bad boy about it. He wasn't frightened but he was doing his level best to convince HIMSELF he was scared.
Phoenix actually acted exactly the same way initially but came around quickly and accepted it.

That is good to hear in a way. The way that he is healthy enough to do it. But he definitly needs to work out of it.

Isn't it amazing that barely 2 months ago he was completely unhandled? And now he comes up to you in the paddock for pets and is interested in what you are doing. He has made such a turn around, his eye is soft, not scared, when you approach and when he plays with Lily in their paddock. Just amazing what basic care and love will do for them!

Kokomo had his little bumps on his chest and shoulders looked at today. Dr. Hannah thinks it is just an allergic reaction, probably to some kind of bug bite as it is pretty localized to one area on one side of his body. They don't seem to bother him much.
He also got his feet done today. Daphne and Valerie worked with him last week and tried to get him done, but apparantly he wasn't very cooperative. He's still very skittish with most people, but has learned to trust me and he's a bit of a momma's boy and a little reassurance from me goes a long way with him. Some of it was real fear and some of it was just being naughty, but with me holding him we were able to get it done, and by the end he was just standing there relaxed getting his hind feet done. He's such a sweet boy!

I love the blog update, THANK YOU!!
He had me from the moment I saw his very first scruffy photo. He's going to be an amazing looking horse & I have every hope that he'll turn out to be a happy/healthy (& Cooperative) horse someday.
I think they realize that things could be worse...much much worse.
Bless you all for taking such good care of him...Mind, Body & Spirit

I like what you say in your blog. It sounds like your philosophy on teaching is like ours. We have many natural horsemanship trainers out here we are learning from while watching our neighbors "horsey babies" being trained. We have been going thru the Parelli course and it seems like it has excellent foundations. I was a flight instructor for many years and I know people respond best to positive reinforcement and success rather than being yelled at and dominated. It seems crazy to me that anyone would think horses or any other animals for that matter would be any different. Teaching can be challenging but it is such a reward to have your "student" excited to learn!
