Her temp was back up this morning to 105.1. Hannah thinks its viral, due to the sudden onset of a high fever with no other symptoms, but hard to know for sure. It is starting to get pretty worrisome if we can't keep that fever down under 104.

And, I just checked it again, back up to 105.1, I administered more banamine. The banamine should have broken the fever by now, so it is concerning that it isn't. She is drinking, but does have the runs (more than usual, she's been continually loose for a while now, we are waiting for the results from the fecal).

Temp down to 102.5 at 5pm, and fecal came back positive moderate strongyles. Hannah is going to do some research on what the next step for worming is, they probably all need to be hit again with another round of wormer.

Lily's fever was up again tonight to 105.5. She managed to spit out the banamine with all her head tossing and when she was fighting me to get in the second dose, she threw herself into her water bucket, which fell on the ground and spilled all over the floor, and then she slipped on the wet mat and fell down herself. She then panicked and was slipping and falling all over the stall and finally collapsed on her side and was scaring the crap out of me because her hind legs were stiff and spasming like she was having a seizure. She laid there for a few minutes breathing hard and I just pet her and soothed her, and after that she got up and seemed fine, was walking normal and appeared uninjured, and proceeded to eat her grain after she got her banamine (with much less of a struggle). She's really worrying me though.

Oh Lily.
I know too much about Strongyles since the seizure. They are evil -- encysted larvae can survive worming. They do tend to emerge in the spring. If that's the cause of her fever that's really not good as it means her intestine could be inflamed. Yesterday afternoon when I was doing chorse she seemed pretty perky and her fever was down. I was thinking she was getting over it. I guess that was just the Banamine taking effect.
I am going to remain optimistic about little Lily though. She does have a fighting spirit - even if it sometimes means fighting the wrong things!
Maximum strength jingles for her.

I think it's time to take off the kid gloves and pull out the cod liver oil and brussel sprouts. There is nothing like getting kids better then by feeding them disgusting stuff and nothing else. When I am not feeling well, I think about cooked liver and it's amazing how the ol' immune system kicks in Yuck, I get the willies even thinking about it....

Okay, because of a lunch hour and Google I now know what these dreadful things are. Poor Lily! Do the other horses need to be tested? Do you need some poo patrol/cleanup help, could that make a difference?
