Not terribly Lily related except in geography but there are 2 Mallard ducks (a Mr. and Mrs) who have been hanging out in a very large puddle in Jaime's back pasture...well, when the babies take a nap - Kokomo and Lilly - the ducks wander up and clean their food dishes and any surrounding pieces of grain the babies may have dropped. SAFE recycles!
It was the little entertainment I got this morning as I was hosing Phoenix's leg. Very cute!

Yes, they have been with us for the last week or so. Aren't they cute? They seem to be here to stay. I think they need names. Mr. and Mrs. Waddle? Donald and Daisy? hmm...

Oh no....Lily was not acting her normal self tonight, seemed a bit listless and depressed and Bonnie and I checked her temperature and it was 104.8! Hannah was coming out anyway to draw blood on the new colt for the IgG test so she looked at her, gave her some banamine, and we have her in a stall isolated now "in quarantine". This creates a whole new set of concerns as we have a newborn on the property and who knows who all is exposed. The only ones that have a stall now are Lily and Hope and the colt with an empty stall in between. Going to have to be very careful about handling Lily and then the others. *sigh*...it never seems to end around here!

Temperature was back up this morning to 105.3. She is very pissed about being locked in a stall, so not acting as depressed as she was yesterday, but she didn't finish her grain either. Poor little girl.

May be a stupid question, but it's been a while since I've had a sick horse around (like since I was a little girl...I've been pretty lucky with the horses I've had in my lifetime thus far)....what's a horse's temp supposed to be?

I have a friend that colt had the same temp. 105 or so for 5 days, snotty nose, slightly depressed and off his feed. Had the temp for 5 or 6 days then it broke, snots cleared up and he is good as gold now. Boy she was scared about strangles so they took a swab. But the vet thinks it might be rhino. Nobody else got it, he was seperated from the other horses and they did the bleach water routine, just in case. They haven't received the culture back yet.
Hope for a speedy recovery

No snotty nose yet, just the fever. This afternoon I got it down to 103.5, but then it went right back up again to 104.4 and she got more banamine at 4:00.
Thankfully, when I checked tonight at 9pm, she was down to 101.7. I can live with that!
