Lily had to go to Pilchuck tonight. Her fever was still over 105 two hours after having Banamine, her heart rate was 80 and her resp. 60, and Dr. Hannah thought her lungs sounded a little rough as well. So she's at Pilchuck to get IV fluids, bloodwork, an ultrasound of her lungs, and hopefully to get that fever under control. Please jingle for our little girl, I am very worried about her.

Some of you have inquired about helping with Lily's vet bills at Pilchuck. Proving once again that SAFE supporters are the kindest and most generous people that a rescue could want on its side! But I wanted to be sure you all realize that since Lily is part of the King County seizure, her vet bill are supposedly being paid by the county. That said, the county hasn't yet repaid SAFE for the substantial amount of money that we have spent out of our own funds to feed and care for these horses...but we are being told that it will happen eventually once the wheels of bureaucracy have started to turn. *sigh* anyway, I just wanted to make sure that was all clear and out in the open! Thanks everyone!!

Update from Pilchuck:
They were able to get Lily's temp down with a different drug and an alcohol bath and she is currently stable. They did an initial ultrasound of her lungs and did see some abnormalities there but she needs to look at it further today to know for sure. Suspected causes are pneumonia or parasitic pneumonia. Apparantly roundworms (which we know the horses had) go through a tissue migration phase through the lungs causing parasitic pneumonia.
We are discussing next steps as far as worming all the horses. She felt it was likely we not only never fully knocked out all the worms in the horses but that they were also reinfecting themselves on the pastures, so worming them again and then starting them on a daily dewormer is the her recommendation.

Thank you for the link, I did a bit more research and it is concerning, I am certainly passing this on to the vets in case they haven't thought of it already. She doesn't have the cough (yet), but she has had continuous diarrhea, which is also sometimes a symptom.

Oh this is all so scary. She couldn't be in better hands than Pilchuck, though. I really, really hope our sweet Lily pulls through soon
