Before I disappear from the wood works for a while I wanted everyone who was interested to get an update on Cash, the 17 year old gray stallion that I posted on the forum.
He's doing well and has gained a bit both in weight and in training. He's becoming more trusting and we've been able to handle him and groom him for the most part. He's still having issues with his feet and the typical ticklish areas. We haven't been able to put a halter on him yet but are able to catch him and lead him around with a head collar we made. I can't blame him. I wouldn't want a halter on if I'd had one on for years.
His new owner came out with a vet to check him over and with the exception of his lack of weight, he cleared with a clean bill of health. Upon having further discussions with her, she has decided to geld him and it will be done as soon as the vet feels comfortable that he can handle the procedure. He will continue his training with me until both his owner and I feel comfortable and he will be relocating to her home with another horse she purchased.
As time goes on I'll post photos. The weather has turned things to muck in the round pen and he tends to roll in the mud before I get a chance to take anything decent.

It's hard to believe it's only been three weeks since Cash showed up at the barn. He's managed to gain about 100 pounds and yet in some of the photos that we have of him, it doesn't look like he's gained anything. He was pretty underweight when he showed up at the barn. We started his ground training the day after he arrived on the property and have managed to get him to the point where I can handle him after working with him for a few minutes in the round pen. I've only really worked with him a couple times a week, we let him out into the round pen for turn out but I didn't want to work him to much while we were helping him gain weight.
If he keeps gaining weight at this rate, we will probably have him gelded right after the new year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

He is sold to a lady friend of mine in Eastern Washington. She will make whatever decisions she makes. I've expressed my concerns and she's taking them into consideration. I can't force her to do anything. " No, but you could have sold her a nice GELDING. The world does not need more unremarkable arabians. There are plenty on Craigslist or at the auction. I sold him before I went and got him. I told his owner that was the only way I could take him is if he had a home before I picked him up. My vet did say the same with my rescued stallion last year - she wanted a few weeks of good feeding first. If your friend balks at gelding him, you can take her down to Enumclaw for the next sale in the meantime and show her what's in the kill pen. We pulled a daughter of a NATIONAL CHAMPION Arabian stallion out this last time...imagine what happens to the daughters of done-nothing Arabian stallions. Yes Cat I know you did because that horse used to belong to me. I follow the auction threads on here. Matter of fact it's the first thing I check when I come on here. But I'm not going to get into why she went to auction or why horses do go to auction here. Even if "cash" stays a stallion, that doesn't mean he will breed. I know plenty of people who have stallions they don't breed but are happy. But, i'm not awake to defend people and I need to get up there to the barn and take photos. I hesitated to post this, but I'm a bit confused - who owns this horse? On the auction board I'm seeing a call for people to donate money for GLA to have him gelded to rehome. All the posts before said someone else owned the horse so she couldn't get him gelded.

K-L informed me that delasl had posted a question about Cash so I came back over to update everyone.
Cash is doing better and has gained about 200 pounds since we picked him up from the lady on October 18th of this year. We've been working on training him and he's become more responsive including actually walking up to people and allowing people to put a halter on him. Unfortunately because he's feeling better, new aspects of his personality have become more apparent and my friend Kassee who lives in Eastern Washington who was planning on taking him and gelding him, is not a good fit for him any longer. We've had a long discussion and because of her three children I do not feel that it will be safe (especially since I've learned they moved to a new location with less, appropriate fencing that won't keep kids out).
Cash is continuing his training and we had scheduled him to be gelded but because of a dog pile of things that hit me at once ranging from horses I had to put down to my boyfriend being in the hospital, those funds disappeared. The addition of two horses pulled from this last auction has also put a little strain on the facility but it is working itself out. There are people who are working to help get him gelded with me and I believe that if things work out the way it should, it will be done shortly.
I appreciate all those who are interested in learning more. I believe that as soon as he recovers from his surgery we will be able to continue his training without hormonal interferences and hopefully get him adopted out to a family who has experience in working with horses like him. I don't want anyone to think that I've been ignoring anything or anyone. We just have 19 horses on the property and between working with the stallions, the foals and our show horses, coordinating the auction horses and my own personal life. i don't have much time to check safes board anymore.

I'm sad to say that Cash has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. GLA found him in his stall injured this morning and had her vet out... his leg was broken in two places so he was euthanized.

You left out alot. It seems horses were not properly confined and he got in a fight with another stallion. What a shitty ending for a beautiful horse.

Yes I did, I hoped those interested would go read the story for themselves as I feared my emotions would cause me to slant the tale. I am having a hard time remaining PC on this one.

If you read the "restricted area" (kind of a joke since there's no real security - they manually delete), any attempt to even hint of wrong-doing by their members is attacked. Apparently posting you can't afford hay, can't pay to geld stallions you take in, describing a horse practically running an elderly person over, horses attacking other horses as you walk them down the aisle, not having safe stalls, not having any safe place to turn out said stallion and having a mare walking around the barn letting other stallions out ( ?) is off-limits. What's really strange is that these are things the person is posting about themself - not someone being snarky. If you come back later and this edited or gone, it's because I settled down from being absolutely outraged about what I've been reading.

Just kiddin'... I too will remove it when you settle - just as soon as you get me settled as well. ;D

So not a surprise. Someone needs to reach down and pull their head out of their ass. This has been STUPID from the start, ending in a predictable way. Grow up and get a life (that doesn't involve animals). Poor thing.

Can someone clarify the difference between hoarder and rescuer for me? It seems to have gotten confused somewhere. But don't most hoarders think they're rescuers?

Can someone clarify the difference between hoarder and rescuer for me? It seems to have gotten confused somewhere. But don't most hoarders think they're rescuers? How about this: A rescuer has the horses best interests in mind. A hoarder has their own interests in mind. OR A rescuer is responsible. A hoarder is irresponsible. OR A rescuer has a basic foundation of resources in place to care for a horse. A hoarder hopes they can keep their head above water. Putting themselves, their families and their horses at risk. And this too. A responsible horse owner checks to make sure their horses are secure in their stalls, especially when they have stallions. A scammer uses the above mentioned animals and their irresponsible behavior to get money for the horses they never should of gotten in the first place. modified to fix spelling.
