He's beautiful. You may have mentioned this upthread, but I've always wondered - do you know what happened to his ear? Did Jean ever say? The only time I have seen a horse with a missing ear tip, it was from frostbite and that did not happen in WA state no matter what else did.

I had a detailed description earlier along with a good photo. Just a little piece is missing, and it was bitten off by his sire down in Texas. Apparently, they were stalled next to each other and playing kissy-face. Well, Shabab got a hold of his ear.... and the rest is history. It probably could have been set, but it wasn't done. I've asked about 5 great vets for opinions and all told me that the chance of making it better was as high as making it worst. If I do decide to do it down the line, they recommend using a small animal surgeon. But I can think of more important things than fixing a silly blemish. On a happier note, anyone want a native costume? This one's for sale. It looks great on him, but not on my mare. I want one that works on both. So this one is going on Ebay. He was nice enough to model.

Coconut would be so offended!!!!! You know, those performance horses can be very typey, or not. Some of this year's hunters and country horses... well, we were making sure we were watching a purebred class.
When it comes to costume.... you want an upright horse. And you need a horse that will haul butt but go back to a nice canter. It's my favorite class ever, right along with show hack (you haul butt in that one too!).
But costumes are expensive "toys". I rented one for Region V this year. That's generally a good way to go (they cost between $1200-$2500 for a "A" quality costume). This one looks okay on Sera, so I'll use it if it doesn't sell. But I would love to trade up for a different color.

I know we'll never be at THAT level...but I meant was that she's not "official" enough (reg/show/etc) to get use of one of those beautiful costumes but it does make my creative juices flow....wondering what it would take to MAKE one of those...and not just a cheesy copy! I'll have to ponder that one awhile ...and I've always been partial to that Royal Blue... Looks good on Bays, Greys, Chestnuts, Blacks...I guess I just like the color so I can't think of any horse it doesn't look good on! But I could see Sera in Royal Blue!

Brier, about 5 minutes south of the Alderwood mall. We have a very large all weather public arena, and I have a smaller one where I keep Sera:-)

Hmmm. Let's keep an eye on the weather in the coming weeks. It's not exactly easy for me to get up north and back before school gets out, however winter break begins next week, so my son would either be able to come along or I could have him spend the day with the grandparents.

No problem. I'm usually at the arena on Saturday and Sunday. Even if this costume sells, I'll pick up a new one by spring since I plan on showing the full circuit with it next year.
Also, my mare Sera would love to have a walk-race with Buena. I saw that your mare trucks at the walk. Mine does too (if I let her). I was wondering which one was faster:-) Have you ever timed her? I got Sera clocked at over 6 MPH at the walk. But it was in the woods with some interruption so I think I could get a better number in the open sometime. Anyway....
Do you know anything about Buena's pedigree? Sera looks a lot like her, and it sounds like your mare like to work cows like mine. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some relation somewhere.

Cool. Not sure red is her color. Plus, she's got winter woolies big time right now. If she does like she always has in the past, I expect the shedding to commence on New Years Eve, if not Christmas Eve. I have worked hard to get that fast walk. I aspire to keep up with some of my mentors and I am not quite there yet. I have not timed it, but probably should. Some friends' horses have to break into a jog to keep up. I figure that long walk with power will come in handy in endurance someday. I'll have to make a point of timing laps up at the Fall City arena next time I head up that way. I think that track is 1/4 mile (but I am not sure). I have NO history on her at all. I wish I did. She was one of the very first CBER listings back in August of 2004.

That's funny, I worked REALLY hard on slowing down Sera's walk. Luckily, I found show hack where she needs to use all three speeds and stride lengths. If you are working up to endurance though, trot trot trot! Nothing will get you further ahead than a really relaxed, very ground covering trot. I like when horses have transmissions:-)
It's too bad you don't have history on her. You really have nothing? No clues or anything? She looks like a quality mare, makes me wonder who in her life messed up so bad. But, at least she ended up with a great home where she can be a happy girl.
Yes, the red is a little iffy for the redder bays. That's why I'm selling. But it didn't look that bad either.

Nada. Nuthin'. She came from "the lot" when Gary Seals used to own it. Supposedly he bought her at an auction, but I was never able to find out which auction. If I had, then I would have contacted the auction to try to find out more. And since this was all back in 2004, any leads are long since gone.
