As the show draws near, we need to have a good base of volunteers to help out. I thought maybe two people to each position so no one gets too tired or burned out. This is what I can think of have so far (please tell me if we are missing anything!):
Show Office: Shekaberry, Jaybird, Cardicorgi
Ring Stewards: English Ring Steward - Honeydofarm, Western Ring Steward: Cat67
Gate: Leah's mom, Kurt
Ribbons: Lynnm
Concessions: Rabbithounds,
SAFE Booth: Schwung, Trillium (raffle)
RIDERS FOR SAFE HORSES: Cedar County Queen - Monicabee, Little Miss - Leahlady, (tentative) Haley - Dr. Hannah
Go-Fers: Lizstabbertphotos BF Robert, Coconut's stepdaughter Nicole,
Trails/Set up Assistants: Leah's BF, Honeydofarms Husband
Show Photographer: Liz Stabbert Photo

I got Volunteer #1 from my Family: My step-daughter, Nicole (who recently took her first riding lesson at 21!) says she'll take the day off and help where ever you need her.

Also, I do not have confirmation yet on whether my sister will be joining me this year. It is starting to look like she will not. Could we perhaps add to the list an assistant for the trails course? I'll change that if she comes, but I need help with gate, set-up, tear down. Simple stuff. Anyone have a 12-15 year old that wants to help but doesn't know where they could be useful? I can give them a job!

To those who can haul: Valerie brought up the idea of bringing some of the non-rideables (like Sinatra, Phoenix, etc.) to the show for meet and greet purposes. Good idea?

To those who can haul: Valerie brought up the idea of bringing some of the non-rideables (like Sinatra, Phoenix, etc.) to the show for meet and greet purposes. Good idea? You know - at first I was thinking that if we had enough volunteers - that each horse would have a handler for the whole day (unless we had temporary stalls set up) because certainly, none of the babies tie and the excitement would be too much for them anyway to tie). But, now I'm thinking that (assuming everyone buys into this) if someone can commit to bringing them about an hour before the lunch break (to give them a chance to settle down, eat something and cool off) then we can parade them around in the arena during lunch and invite people to come into the arena and (meet and greet). Then we could send them home. This will mean that we will need at least 2 people to pick up and haul - and then a group of baby handlers that are prepared to hang on to babies for the entire time they are there. I really think this is an excellent time to get good exposure for these babies in an affluent area of people that may not be on the SAFE site to see these wonderful horses. But it's a big coordination and volunteer issue. We really need alot of people to please come forward and volunteer for this show.

Redmond brings up a good point that this is a fairly affluent area and having our horses in tip top form is super important. The babies are a clean canvas, ready to go in any direction; and our rideables are beautiful and all very nice horses.
Cowgirl Spirit will be doing a lunchtime drill demonstration, featuring rescued horses, and having the babies there could also attract media attention. Wouldn't that be grand!

OK, the Ring Stewards are covered. If anyone really doesn't like the post I assigned, just let me know and we can switcharoo.

Ok: My boyfriend offered to hold horses all day. My mom will be there to help, she knows how shows work and can probably fill in for several positions. She could be a go-to person. I will offer to ride, I would prefer a Thoroughbred.. lol. I don't have to show Lady, she has been in 10,000 shows already. But I do want to bring her down to meet everybody! I talk about her so much that everyone has to meet her It is worth mentioning.....we don't know how these horses will be behaving at the show. Shows can be quite exciting, and it will be the first show/busy outing for most of the horses. We should have extra, experienced horse-handlers just in case... And as far as riding, I don't care who I ride, and I will offer to ride whoever. I still bounce, so if you want to throw me on whoever is going nuts, that sounds like fun

I'm in for whatever. Would prefer to move around. I use to play "rover" in softball, so I am really good at being a Rover (woof, woof)

Leah, I bet you'd be a good match for Little Miss. Not that she's crazy, but what I've heard of her, I bet she'd be a fun ride!

I might be out of town the weekend of the show, if not, I can help haul the babies. I was going to bring JR for leadline, depending on how the old guy is getting around, might just leave him at home. So I have two, possibly three spots available heading from Lake Stevens.

I might be able to talk my boyfriend Robert into coming and being a general gofer if any more are needed I had talked with Bonnie about photographing the event and was still planning on doing that (noticing your show photographer space ) I'll mostly be in the arena though so if someone would do candids around the grounds that would be great (hey Leahlady )!

Do we need or organize a CLEAN-UP Crew too?
From some of the events I've been involved with I know it can be exhausting to have a full day of activity and then have to stay til the wee hours to get the place back into pre-event shape. Sometimes we've been allowed to come back the following morning to haul trash and do final clean-ups but I'm wondering if since this is a place that people might be coming to enjoy early the next day, that it might need to be in tip-top shape before we leave that night.
What was the aftermath last year?

You know, last year wasn't too bad by my recollection. There was a "core" group of us that kind of wrapped everything up after the show before we all went back to our hotels and crashed. Maybe it's just the rosy coloring after not having done it for ten months ;D
