And great pictures, too! I am THRILLED for him - you all have done a wonderful job, and his wound has healed so amazingly well. So THANK YOU Julie, Val, Monica, Dr. Hannah, et al, for bringing this cutie pie through to where he is today!

Rhythm gets cuter everytime I see him! His summer coat is all shiny and he let me comb his mane and tail with a generous dousing of Show Sheen and he stood like a statue in his stall while I groomed him.
He is still pretty nippy, but he ground manners have improved greatly. I haven't had him rear or be silly on the leadline for some time!

Rhythm was castrated today, as was Kokomo. I was only there for Kokomo's surgery, but Hannah said Rhythm's went well. He was "very well endowed" (and I saw the testicles, compared to Kokomo's they were HUGE!). Both are confined to a stall for the next 24 hours, then get daily "workouts" to help with the swelling.

I saw Rhythm briefly today before he was loaded into Bonnie's trailer with Kokomo to go to his new adventure in Silverdale. He looked great and was feeling quite fiesty. He is still thin and needs some pounds but has shed out beautiful shiny black.

Lucky Rhythm will learn some manners and proper Herd-Etiquette at Bonnie's, I hope. I don't think he has ever been turned out with other horses so this will be quite the experience for him!

I had the same thought, Allison...only trouble is that so far Rhythm seems convinced that my three geldings are actually mares, and that he really really needs to...um....do something he can't do anymore...so until he cools his jets, I'm keeping an empty paddock between him and the big boys. Once they do go out together, I think they will show Rhythm what's what. For right now, they just stare at him in complete and utter disbelief.

It takes about a month for the hormone levels to drop, I believe.

Rhythm update: We've had some issues... Rhythm came up three-legged lame last Sunday during our forced exercise session, and it was the leg with the barbed wire injury that was giving him problems. There wasn't much to see, just a small bloody spot above the scarline about midway down the scar. But he remained intermittently three-legged lame for several days. On Tuesday, I put an Epsom Salt poultice on his hoof and wrapped it, on the chance that he had an abscess brewing. On Wednesday I took him to see my vet, and after shaving his pastern and doing a nerve block, he discovered that the little bloody spot I had seen was a blown abscess. He flushed the abscess and now it is up to me to keep it clean and wrapped. The good news is that he is no longer lame on it.
His incision from his gelding has been looking kinda of awful, but my vet reassured me that it wasn't anything to worry about, and that it was going to look worse before it started looking better. Because of his foot, he can't be exercised so he is swollen, but even that is getting better.
Since he has been here, Rhythm has proven to be a very sweet and sensible little guy. His initial bravado towards the big horses here disappeared very quickly, and he and Kokomo have become good friends. Towards me, he is very sweet and easy to handle. He doesn't always lead well, but he has displayed none of the misbehavior that was described during his little studdly days. No rearing, no biting. He's actually quite gentle and quiet. He is a bit headshy, but does permit his forehead to be rubbed and even enjoys it. He is as cute as a button, and hopefully now that he is gelded he will fill out a bit more and really start to get handsome.
