Haley (formerly Angel) is a 12 year old TB mare that was previously owned by Jean Elledge. She was given to Jean's niece and a series of coincidental events brought her to Dr. Hannah's attention and ended up with Dr. Hannah convincing her owner to surrender her to SAFE, as she was having trouble affording her feed (she was being fed 6 loaves of bread a day), her feet are in terrible shape, she is possibly pregnant and has a recent injury on a front foot from getting her foot caught in a fence. SAFE really is overfull at the moment, but given the circumstances and the fact that this was another Elledge horse we made room for Haley.
She's a beautiful dark bay mare, very big (probably 16.2-16.3) and big boned, with a beautiful eye and nice conformation. Her weight is actually good (the bread diet must have agreed with her) and the injury is fairly superficial. She loaded well but was not a good hauler and the short journey was fairly rocky, and she was drenched in sweat when we got there. However, she stood quietly for a cool shower and seems very sensible and sweet, although she does not like having her injured foot handled. Dr. Hannah tried to palpate her this evening but she was a little unhappy about that so we will wait a few days and do it when she gets her teeth done and is under sedation.
She is trotting sound, and apparantly is great on trails, and does have jockey club papers (Registered Name "No Halo for Me"). FYI, this is the "missing" TB mare that I assumed was among the dead. Thankfully, she is alive and well!
Pictures to come!

Oy! I didn't know a horse could live on bread! I'm glad she's with you and hope she isn't pregnant. Do you know if she's been regularly treated for parasites?

I would assume no, so she'll be getting the same treatment as the others, and Hannah took a fecal sample tonight as well.

...and The Herd grows! I'm so thankful she's been found!! Hooooray I'm not sure why that name rings a bell. I have a friend with a horse named Halo and I remember seeing that name somewhere and thinking she should have Halo and No Halo for me. What a pair that would make. Halo is Coconut's twin, by the way. They've been switched in a prank once too! But back to Haley. Whew ... SO glad to know she survived but like I said on another thread, I sure wish Jean Elledge would have to account for all the horses she had.

She's definitely had some foals, hasn't she? I can't wait to see what she looks like after some SAFE TLC. Is she ok about having her hooves handled? Or is this going to be another "project" for Daphne?

Is she favoring the left hind? Her hooves are atrocious, obviously not seen a farrier in quite some time. I agree with Epiphany, she looks preggo. Fingers crossed that she isn't!!!
