She is striking! Isn't it amazing what food will do?

Well, not just food as it turns out. Take a closer at Hope's belly. Notice anything?? Like, she's still a little ribby, and yet awfully ROUND???
Yup, she's pregnant! Hannah just got done palpating her (it was quite obvious this weekend when she came back to my house for the media shoot), and there is DEFINITELY a baby in there, and she felt the heartbeat as well. She said its a very big baby and she thinks she will foal in the next month or so. So Hope is moving back here to foal out and the plan is to move Kokomo and Lily to Julie's.

Well at least we were able to get in her in a bit better health before that baby came. Poor girl. Everything she's been through and now this. Looks like Jaime is going to be on foal watch again! Hopefully everyone is healthy this time just like with Viv

Not a dumb question at all! Certainly it can affect the baby - and we can only hope that it hasn't. Mares will use just about all their own reserves before affecting their fetus, but its definitely a concern. I am wondering myself if the last month of GOOD nutrition is what has caused Hope to go from looking like a walking skeleton to quite pregnant in just a few weeks, if the baby had a sudden growth spurt as a result. Dr. Hannah did hear the baby's heart rate which sounded nice, strong and normal.

Let's just all send a few extra jingles to Hope's baby. I'm sure a couple months of good, healthy nutrition isn't hurting at all. Maybe that is enough to make up for it. We can hope!
Are you going to be putting Hope on any mare/foal feed? Do you have a feed store you use that would allow me to call and pay for a bag?

Whitewolf - all the mares and foals have been on LMF Development which is an excellent mare/foal feed. We had the babies on it and put all the mares on it as well as we knew they might possibly be pregnant. So, she's been getting just the right nutrition she needs. However, if you would like to donate a bag of that, we are burning through about 10 bags a week, so we can definitely use it! You can call in an order to Front Porch Feed and Mercantile in Sultan which is where I have been buying it. Thanks!

I have called around to the different feed stores ( Dels, doesn't carry it, DeYoung in Wdnvl, Reber Rnch in Kent) and Sultan had the best price which comes out to about $20.00 a bag with tax.
Is there an account for SAFE or is it under someone's name?
Is there going to be a name the baby contest or a guessing of the sex and date/time arrival? The winner can get an all expense paid trip to Humptulips or even Silvana! ;D

Yes, there is an account in our name. Wendy (the owner) knows us well - I am in there usually several times a week. Just tell her to put it aside for us. And yes, Sultan is the best place for LMF and it is only a couple miles from my house as well. Wendy should give us a 10% discount but you will probably have to remind her.
