Haven't put up a new picture of her in a long time! Here she is. She is on her last summer at this point...she has lost most of the sight in the other eye and is getting to that point where she is unsafe to handle. Right now she is in a pretty safe spot with two mares she bosses around despite her handicap.

Cat, she looks wonderful!! I know she's had a good life with you, whatever the outcome is (or whenever the end is here), she'll go across the Rainbow Bridge knowing she was loved and having led a wonderful life up until the end. Give her a hug and a scritch from her Auntie Mel...

I think every picture you've ever posted of Sunline makes her look like the shiniest horse I've ever seen. She's just beautiful, Cat!

I love her color - she's that true red chestnut. The hard part about her is that she's a naturally hot horse and wants to run and is reactive...she isn't the type to go "oh ok I'm blind, I'd better move slowly and carefully now." I've said a million times, it'd be so much easier if Clover were the blind one.

Just wanted to update the thread belatedly with the news that Sunline was put to sleep on August 21st. Dr. DeWard agreed after handling her for a few minutes that she had gotten to the point where her blindness was a danger to her and any handlers. She was fat and happy and she and Kit had eaten a whole bag of cookies that morning. Kit, her babysitter mare, was put to sleep with her as Kit had suffered a debilitating tendon tear a year prior that she continued to re-injure whenever the ground wasn't dry, rendering her three-legged lame. They were buried together.

We know you took great care of these two gals. When it is time, it is time, and there is no use dragging it out. Best to do it on a nice sunny day rather than waiting. My best wishes to you.

Wow, that is some news. It would be pretty hard to let both go at the same time, but at the same time, it would be hard for one without the other. And three-legged lame ain't much fun

It was absolutely the right thing to do. Sunline was a high spirited TB and not dealing well with her blindness, and Kit had a portion of her tendon wadded up behind her knee. It was scarred down but would tear if she had to slog through poor footing. Cat nursed her through a good summer and it was a kindness that she did not have to deal with another winter.
God speed old girls...............

Cat, you have my sympathies - and kudos for doing right by the mares - they had a great life with you.
