She looks so good. What a wonderful job you have done with her. Thanks so much for stepping up and caring for her despite your surprise when she got to Cali.

Wow - she looks great! Be sure to fill us in on how the bitless bridle is working (when you can get back on her!) It sure looks good!

So...since Cat67 has to work incredibly long hours on MWF, I went out to visit with Ms. Sunline last night. Soooo...Ms. Sunline was less than impressed that it took me about 2 weeks to visit her since the last time I was there. As a consequence, she wasn't having any part of our usual trotting around the ring on a free longe routine. I think I did more moving than she did and I sure looked stupid doing it. At one point she turned away and tried to pretend she didn't know me. If horses could roll their eyes...she would have done it! She was also not at all impressed with my attempts to teach her how to back up...the only thing I picked up at the SAFE clinic. Darn that horse! Anyway, after about 25 minutes of me looking like a dork I decided to move onto other things. She got a brush down so she was all pretty again. Then I got her oats and fresh water, picked her stall out and generally fussed over her for about an hour. As I left, she told me to not be a stranger...then she turned and got back to her oats. :-) Sunny is such a cutie!

LOL. She free longes for me as long as I'm paying attention. She knows the second I begin reading my e-mail on my Blackberry instead of just glancing at the time, and will stop!
Smart mare. Way too smart.

OK, today was just funny! I came out this afternoon and they were longeing all the fat, hyper warmbloods in the main ring. They were bucking and farting as usual. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to turn Miss Sunline out a bit in the smaller arena before I got on. She pitched a FIT, bucking in place, like she was trying to buck the saddle off her back, and then tore around the arena like she was warming up for the Derby for so long that I finally hung off the fence so she could see me (she was going counterclockwise, so she couldn't see me in the middle of the arena) and went "HO, you're going to make yourself lame!" and stuck my arm out until she finally broke to a trot. Then I got on her and we had to spook at the trainer's dogs that we've seen about, um, three hundred times, every single time we went past them.
Hmmm maybe those massages are making her feel too good? hehehe...
Edited to add - she does love the bitless bridle and is riding very well in it. It was definitely the right choice for her!

What a picture Cat - I'm sure she hadn't had that much energy in years! You have given her her youth back and she's taking yours in turn. Mel - how about the rope around the hindquarters give to pressure thing and yielding hindquarters and forehand! ;D

Wellll, we work on yielding the hindquarters...but no rope business. I don't trust myself to get it right and the last thing I want to get wrong is ropes around the leg area.

Hilarious girl! I love that she busts you when you are not giving her the attention she feels she is due. I also love your updates (and Mel's too!).

I think anything with a rope might scare her, as it is I have to tack up carefully because she just sees the tack as it suddenly flies over to the side she can see on. I have spooked her flipping the reins over her head before.

I have somehow misplaced my darn camera in my 1 bedroom apartment. How does a person do that? Anyway, I can't show you how good she looks, but she does look good. She had a new experience this week - she had a little bit of a puffy suspensory with mild heat after tearing around the turnout like Smarty Jones on Red Bull, so I poulticed her. HILARIOUS. She kept putting her nose down and snorting at the white stuff like "WHAT are you DOING to me, mom?" Then of course she got it on her nose and she didn't like that at all. Wrinkled up her nose and snorted and snuffled. She was also none too sure about the wet brown paper that came next, but she stood still with a few verbal warnings. I think it's so funny that she acts like a baby about this stuff, but you know, this is an 18 year old mare who I am sure was owned by people not evolved enough to know what a leg wrap is, much less poultice or liniment or anything like that. The good news is, the poultice worked like a charm, tendon was nice and tight today just like it should be.
If I ever find the darn camera, I will post some updated pictures!

Better she ate it/got it all over her nose than you. ;D I adore the old drama queens.
