His sire bit off a tiny piece and then it folded down. His sire experienced the same thing. Weird, huh? They were just in stalls next to each other playing. That's what his breeder down in Texas told me. He actually broke a really good sweat climbing up the mountain, but he held up really well. I've conditioned horses for endurance riding, so I'm pretty careful; but I do ask them to work:-)

His new name is Kramer. When I have him registered I will be changing his name. He was suppose to be FW Shamal per the breeder and that's a lot better than his current regi name. I don't know where to post this but I would like to offer my help with helping any of his babies register or obtaining any papers of the half arabs or purebreds that have come from this seizure. It's really not all that hard to do, and it does make it easier to find homes. Hi there, now that I have Ariel home, how would you suggest going about registering her? I don't know for sure that I will be showing her in the future, but I would like to participate in other riding programs so I would like to get her registered if I can. I have no experience with the AHA's policies and procedures, so any advice or help you (or anyone else) can offer would be great! I went to the AHA website, but wasn't sure where to start, since this isn't just a transfer of ownership.

I would suggest starting with calling AHA. You want to talk with Randi. You want to tell her that Ariel was born with SAFE, so the dam and birthday can be verified. This makes her at least registrable as a half arab. Her sire is DNA typed, which may help you with the other half or registration. I am happy to sign any paperwork as well as potentially send in hair samples. But talk to Randi first, and see what she can do for you.

I called the AHA and it doesn't look like I'll be able to register Ariel without signatures from the registered owner(s) of the dam, sire, and breeder, which are all Jean Elledge from what I understand. Right?
Apparently, it's a lot easier to transfer ownership in a case like this than it is to register an unregistered horse.

Right? Apparently, it's a lot easier to transfer ownership in a case like this than it is to register an unregistered horse. When I contacted the AHA, they said they could DNA or blood test if I had at least some idea who Coconut's parents are. Then she could be registered. Since we know who Ariel's parents are then the test should do the trick! We also know what day she was born and I would think that the guilty plea to the cruelty charges, the seizure by animal control and the eventual adoption by SAFE from animal control are all enough to show providence in this horse. The DNA and/or blood tests are icing that proves she is who she is in the pedigree. I would think that Dr. Hannah who undoubtedly can vouch for the foaling AND also happens to be the state's witness in the criminal case would also make for a credible statement as to the foaling date. I think this will be much easier than you fear. It's going to take some paperwork, but I think you'll have a registered little filly before you know it! in an odd side note, I have actually printed out a letter to J.Elledge asking for names of Coconut's former owners or any additional information. That was an incredibly difficult letter to write trying to leave out the anger I obviously would have liked to include. I managed to keep it straight to the point without endorsing her actions in any way. I still have it on my printer...haven't even picked it up yet. I don't know where to send it but I'm sure someone knows where she is. My guess is Purdy !? I've tried repeatedly to search for information on Coconut but no luck so far Best wishes on your registration of Ariel. I think you'll be past this hurdle in no time

You have to keep pushing them. AHA can be pretty hard to work with. As Jet mentioned, we have proof that the foal came out of her arabian dam. That's at least a half-arab regi there. The owner at the time of birth was Sno County. I'd just keep pestering them and asking them questions. Bring up all the points Jet and I brought up when talking to them. It took me MONTHS to get Khramer's registration through, but if you keep at it it does work eventually.... no matter what circumstance.

I have a signed paper from Snohomish County stating that they legally took possession of the horses that were seized as no bond was posted, and that the horse was legally adopted to us. That, in addition to the adoption contract you signed with us, and DNA samples proving Khramer as sire and Amber as dam (both already registered), I think should be enough.
Barbara, do you know if Megan succeeded in getting Sasha registered?

Barbara, do you know if Megan succeeded in getting Sasha registered? That's what I assumed, but the person that I talked to at the AHA (Kristy) said that I would need signatures from the owners/breeder at the time of breeding and that it doesn't really make a difference what happened to the sire or dam afterward. It seems like there should be a way to do it though, because I can prove that Amber is her dam and Khramer is DNA typed. Any advice/help would be much appreciated!

As far as I know, Sasha does not have papers yet.
She was a different story; neither sire nor dam are verified. No one saw her born that can vouch for it.
Randi at AHA is really the person you need to talk to. Unfortunately, they don't know how to use the DNA well yet (I believe at one point they actually told me "well, we could tell you he's a horse!" (really hurts when you have a bio BS)). But having her born with SAFE thus 100% verifying her dam should give enough to id the sire with DNA alone. Just talk with Randi. If you don't get far, let me know and I'll call her myself.

I did get Randi, but she said she's no longer in the same position, so she transferred me to someone named Kristy. This Kristy person was completely unhelpful. Basically told me if I can't get all the proper signatures on the Registration Application, there's not much chance of getting her registered. She was unwilling to discuss other routes that I may be able to take to get her registered. I'm not familiar enough with this process to be able to get anywhere with her.

Darn. I will call AHA myself when I get a chance next week and see what I can find out. That is soooooo stupid. I mean, with two DNA'ed parents and seeing her birth. That just frustrates me to no end!!!

I know that Megan has hired a lawyer to help her get Sasha registered. If she is successful, then you should be!
