I disagree. That halter is the soft pink found on the inside of a lovely lovely seashell.

I had a hard time sleeping last night and was antsy to ride this morning so I decided to go to the barn and take a dawn ride with Shante. I climbed on bareback and just rode with a halter and clip on reins - what a dream. We did a few drills but only at a walk - he is very alert, responsive and will move right off your leg with hardly any pressure. His ears never twitched or went back.. he seemed very happy with the attention like having a rider completed him. He never spooked at anything, even with Dolly still running and bucking around behind us. It was so nice starting the day riding such a good horse as the first light took over the sky

Morning rides are great and he is a fun horse I haven't put a saddle on him yet but we've been all over the property bareback including hanging out by the road where he wasn't at all phased by a group of 6 noisy Harley's cruising past about 10 ft from his nose. My Mother's Day present was in the form of some extra cute pics Shante and Dolly gave me... Shante enjoying that grass Suprised he raised his head from it for anything Dolly sitting up from her daily Princess Nap Dolly-Lolling

Shante looks utterly fantastic. It is hard to believe he was emaciated less than two months ago. There is nothing like good grass for these older, skinny horses!

He's such a sweet boy.. wish I could keep him - wish I could keep them all... So, I saddled him up yesterday and went for a nice little ride. He wasn't too happy about having a bit in his mouth but got over it once I mounted up. VERY smooth and unlike what I was expecting from an arab! Very attentive and responsive - he's been there done that. Ears perked the entire time and very willing... Somebody is going to be VERY happy with this guy I'll try to get a new photo up soon.. he looks great under saddle. *did I say VERY enough??? hehe*

Do you think he would be suited well for a 10yo advanced beginner under instruction? I have a student who is looking for a horse, they are going out to meet one tomorrow, but I mentioned Shante as a good candidate. Where are you located Kahluacowgirl?

He would be well suited for an advanced beginner in my opinion. He moves out well if you ask for it but is very mellow and laid back otherwise, never out of control. He pays close attention to his rider and really wants to please. I think a 4-Her or young beginner would be perfect for Shante. My beginning 5 year old son rode him alone when he was saddled and I walked alongside but was very comfortable with it. I am in Silverdale, WA

So we have both adopted out horses over the age of 25 to ideal homes in the past month...that should be a lesson to all rescuers who are hesitant about taking senior animals for fear of not placing them! A big congratulations to Shante...he must still be wondering what happened that his life got SO much better in a short period of time. He and Clover will have to meet up at a horseshow and talk about it.
