Jaime that is so awesome! When I looked at the first photos you posted of him, I had just a feeling that he was someone special. I'm glad he is doing so well. I'm laughing about Bella...she sounds a bit like Oliver...always falling in love with the wrong girl... ;D

He is looking awesome. Don't let anyone knock him for his age. My first horse Tasha was a 26 year old severly emaciated arabian mare who was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Tash had been used as a pack horse her entire life and had the battle scars to prove it.
In less than a year I had her back in good health (despite the fact that I knew NOTHING about rehabbing starved horses) and much to her dismay, showing in 4H. I still have our very first ribbon. I rode her in her final gaming show when she was 34 (we won the trotting barrels and the egg and spoon race that day). She lived to be 37 and was more than worth her weight in gold.
I see a lot of Tasha in Shante and sure hope someone gives him a chance.

We are going ahead and offering Shante for adoption, with an adoption fee of $300.

Great news! Will someone be able to evaluate him under saddle?

When I was out on Saturday, a few hours after he arrived and we brushed him, Jaime put her dressage saddle on his back (while he was eating his mush) and he didn't even bat an eye. He would be such an ideal kid/beginner horse, stood like a statue during the grooming session, fantastic ground manners; just an all around nice guy. And what a mover!

Yeah, I was going to get on him but I didn't have a girth that fit him, and we were going to try Allison's saddle but then got interrupted. Maybe you should get on him tonight, Ally? (hint, hint...) ETA: I do know that our Dr. Hannah got up on him recently bareback and trotted around the pasture with nothing more than a halter and lead rope for reins!

That's right, besides Cactus Flower, all your horses are 16+ hands!

Yes, that's true. Even "little" Tessa is well past the 16h mark now (and growing!).

OK, Jaime, I will saddle test this guy tonight. I even have a bridle in my trunk that will fit him and a full cheek snaffle. Full report due tomorrow, Ladies. (and gentlemen, if there is one out there...)

Bonnie dropped Shante off today... what a cool guy I curried him and got to know him a bit, walked the pasture lines, did some fit & show work, introduced him to the kids and all their little tykes toys, introduced him to the noisey mutts bouncing off the sides of the kennel then let him sniff noses with Dolly before letting him get a bite to eat. When I finally let them out together they got along famously. NOTHING phases this fellow! Somebody is going to run away with a wonderful beginner or 4-H horse here. ;D Tucker telling Shante what a good boy he is and how much he likes the pink halter.

Shante looks fabulous - Jaime what a great job on his weight! I love the picture of him w/ your boys KCG. He looks so happy munching on all the luscious green grass! Enjoy the sweet boy, I got to meet him yesterday and he is as sweet as can be and a beauty to boot.

Peri - the thanks don't go to me, they go to a kind woman named Pat who had been keeping Shante since his rescue the end of February. She did all the hard work!
Thank you SO MUCH Patti for taking him. I know he will do great with you and will love all that lush grass you have there!

Nice curry job, too! I was finger-currying him in the morning before Bonnie left, so I know how much hair there was! ;D Pat and Jaime - very nice job. And he is a sweet guy, for sure. One of the few who can wear a Pepto-bismal Pink halter and get away with it!
