OK, here she is! The wonderful "Playing in the Pond" video! I just managed to catch her in it:

You think she needs extra pounds? I think she looks JUST GREAT AS IS!
Nice mud bath, Miss Piggy! I still stand by the assumption that she's part MUSTANG!

Okay, now that's just funny... I've never seen a horse so enthralled with a "pond." But I guess it's like having a kid.... you're just glad they found something they love to do...

She needs muscle and to lose the rain rot on her butt. She will just bloom come summertime when the winter coat is gone and she can get some exercise. I wish I could take her

Gosh, she's beautiful! It's fun trying to get weight on and keep it on those TBs isn't it? My mare eats like a veritable piggie and just holds her own. I sure wish it was that way for me.

Bella is going to a new foster home next weekend in Portland, so I spent a little time with her today. I took her out and brushed her, and noticed that in addition to being just filthy, she seemed like she had a dandruff situation going on (and I wonder if that's why she keeps getting in the water, maybe she is itchy?). So, I had help today from my high school job shadow so I decided to give her a bath with some medicated shampoo. The weather was decently warm, although the sun was playing hide and seek. She was awesome when we first sprayed her down (with cold water mind you!). But after the first side was done the wind kicked up a bit and I think she was getting cold, and was a little more ansy and fidgety, and her tongue was lolling around (her nervous habit). But mostly she was a super good girl and after she was done I put a cooler on her and put her in a stall to dry while we cleaned the stalls. Once she was dry I took her out and she positively GLEAMED....she has a beautiful, shiny black coat right now. We took a few conformation shots and then I took her into the arena and let her blow off a little steam on the lunge line for a couple of minutes so we could get some video of her movement. Here are her new conformation shots. She still is a little on the ribby side, but we're working on it. I gave in and put front shoes on her a couple of weeks ago, her feet had worn unevenly and she had no wall on the inside of her front feet. Now her feet look much better! and the video (warning, its fairly long). She has really pretty movement...more of a flat kneed mover like a hunter but she has a lot of hock action that us dressage folks love: And a few stills from the video:

I am luck enough to have Miss Bella for a week....she is staying with me until her new foster mommy takes her this weekend as my place is an hour or 2 closer to oregon...... Bella has settled in well and has already had an adventure! I have a large herd of elk that periodically come through mine and the neighbors pastures. This morning I was out feeding at 5am and I saaw the herd in the field next to Bella's pasture. She was absulutely stunning as she stood watching them. She is a VERY reasonable mare and short of keeping an eye on them she decided that they were not going to hurt her and started to tell me to hurry up with her breakfast.

Ah, you dressage people are into hock action? No wonder the dressage lady I showed Rudolph to was all over him...that is exactly how he moves! Good to know. I really don't know squat about dressage.

My name is Kathy Smith from Ferndale. I spoke to "someone" about Bella a while ago. I had the impression she may not be sound enough to use for a trail horse which is what we are looking for. We recently adopted a OTTB from CBER and are in love with her and are looking for a second horse. So what is her prognosis?

Hi Kathy,
I went back and tried to find an email from you, I couldn't find one so I am not sure who you spoke to. Bella should be sound enough to be a trail horse, once she finishes her rehab. However, because of the nature of her injury there are no guarantees, we can only offer that the vet gave her a positive long-term prognosis as at least a light riding horse. She'll probably need a bit of training before she could be a reliable trail horse, as while she is very level-headed she is also fresh off the track, so trails would be a new experience for her completely.
