David Bowie's birthday was yesterday (and he's not dead yet)...

If he were dead, I would be in some sort of state of perpetual mourning. Bowie's the icon who tells us all that we can make an absolute spectacle of ourselves for years and still emerge kid-safe in middle age. ;D This has me stumped. I started thinking about local-ish musicians who passed, which ultimately brought me to Elliott Smith and I gots all depressed.

Arthur Kane is dead with a movie (a documentary, really) but he was a bass-player, and not a "flamboyant front person."

Well, there's Michael Hutchence from INXS, I'm not sure if I would call him flamboyant, and while there wasn't a movie about him (to my knowledge) there was a reality show to find his replacement in the band....

no, she said it was wrong. shucks! and according to the site you posted, he died on Sept 16, just weeks short of his 30th birthday...which means he probably wasn't born on Jan 8...
I thought of another dead, local, flamboyant lead person: Andrew Wood! Remember him, Jolene?
another thought....could it be Layne Staley??

I thought Layne Staley too, but wrong birthday. :I
Mother Love Bone OMG!!!! as the young kids say. that's one I haven't thought of in a loooong time. But Andrew Wood was born earlier in January, I think.

ah ha! according to IMDb, there was a 1992 documentary about Mother Love Bone called The Love Bone Earth Affair.
So it must be Andy.
