I just think these running as a herd photos are cool (even though admittedly, I was too afraid to put my own horses in there), so here are a couple more that Juliane took:

Juliane and B: Is there anything more adorable than a girl and a pony? Rick and Ace (who eventually had to be roped to be caught): After Rick caught Ace, Juliane got to work with him a bit: Dorothy helping Jessica with Skittles. I have to give Peri's daughter big kudos, she was incredibly dedicated to working with that pony, very patient and did a great job! Rick and B: And despite all the excitement, Vivian never looked up from grazing:

Great pictures everyone. Rick was incredible, a true sense of what a cowboy should be. Very caring of the horses. Dorothy was also knowledgeable, it was wonderful to watch her saddle and work with Ace, and then have Juliane do it. Rick did wonderful with B (almost took him home) and over all it was one of the greatest clinic weekends ever. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it happen, and the chance to meet and make new friends. Sarah

I thought it was incredibly fascinating - both Rick and Dorothy are very very competent trainers; I consider myself lucky to have learned an eensy bit from them. I've been a convert to this kind of horsemanship for a couple years, now - although I must admit I was very skeptical at the beginning. However, it got my own OTTB and me through some really rough spots. It certainly got the horses at the clinic through some rough spots! I envy their timing, and ability to read horse language - what he did with Honeycutt was like art. And I too saw the huge difference in his eye from "before" to "after" - and it was also very obvious that HC wanted to please, that he was trying hard to do the right thing. I'm certain he will excel at any job he is given - western or english. I wish I'd seen more of Ace and B, and Patience - but Vanna was keeping me busy, silly TB ;D. Lastly, the fact that Max, the Jack Russell, was so well-behaved made me immediately think that Rick was a good horse trainer. I've never met anyone who could train a Jack Russell! ;D

OK, took a break to help Peri get Azalea and Skittles loaded up (had a few problems there, but they are on their way now). More pictures coming! Sarah's husband Matt and Ace: B getting bridled: Getting on: Under saddle with Rick (nice mover, eh?): And with Juliane:

Working with Azalea, Rick used ropes and the girth and where the flank strap goes to test for girthiness or a tendency to buck: Scary plastic bags on a stick were used to desensitize: Azalea wondering what this big clunky thing on her back is: Under saddle with Rick: And Peri's first ride on her horse!!

A major breakthrough was made with Oliver, Bonnie's horse. Since she got him from CBER he has had something wrong with his hind end. He has weird stabbing movement with his hind legs and the one time she tried to saddle him, he fell down. She had had 3 vets look at him including a chiropractor but they felt it was not a problem with his back but with his hocks, which she had had injected without much improvement. Dorothy immediately diagnosed the problem by locating an area on his spine which, when even lightly touched, caused him to repeatedly buckle at the knees. Her and Rick spent quite some time working on him and adjusting him, and afterwards he was moving much freer. Now Bonnie has a plan of attack to try and help her horse, which is just awesome. Here is Rick and Oliver: Dorothy and Rick adjusting him: Rick working him in the roundpen:

The photos everyone has been waiting for, HC under saddle! First, here is Rick working on groundwork with him: Saddled: Letting him loose with the saddle (after this display, I got brownie points for my split second in the saddle with him!): Finally, he starts to relax: Then Rick attempts to mount: Here we go again! Second mounting attempt: Success! Good boy:

This is Dorothy petting Ace from her horse. She tried to pony him, but Ace was having none of that. He's as distrustful of horses with humans on them as humans themselves.

He looks absolutely gorgeous. I hope this really makes a big leap in helping him find his forever home.
So, when are you going to ride him again?

During that first session with Rick in the round pen on Saturday, my heart was in my throat for most of it. As you can see, by the end of the Saturday session he was pretty exhausted. HC was very unsure of what was expected of him and he was pretty tightly wound as a result.
Boy, when he throws a horsey hissy, he doesn't fool around!
