Sending my sincere condolences. This is one of the hardest decisions to make. Wishing him a peaceful crossing over the Rainbow Bridge where he will run pain free...

I am sorry to hear this but it does sound like the kindest thing. Much like that mare a few months ago with the severe infection, it's great that SAFE was able to step up and provide the vet care needed in order to make an informed decision for this guy. Thanks to those who took the time to help him!

Thank you all so much. It is so hard to make this decision. I just wish I had done more, or found out sooner. I kinda feel responsible for not finding it in time. I bet everyone feels like that at one time or another. I appreciate all the kind words they help. And yes jamie you can post his pics. I am going to get the ones of him when he was fat and happy in the summer so that people will see him healthy too. Please everyone dont look down on me when you see how skinny he is I really tried my best. I did all i knew how to do. thanks again for the support. I will stay in contact. maybe there will be a time I can help someone else in a time of need.

Cadillac passed on today to that better place. He was unleashed from his mortal confines at about 7:30pm. I want to thank SAFE and Dr. Hannah I couldnt ask for a better dr. She made everything so perfect, I felt like she was just one of my best friends helping me threw this hard time. I would like to post a poem in honor of this great horse. "I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself, A sparrow would drop frozen dead from a bow without ever having felt sorry for itself." Cadillac was an amazing, one of a kind horse that has always cared for his humans. He always gave kisses and cuddles for anyone who needed them. He was my handsome hero and kevin (my boyfriends) "little buddy" we will forever have him in our hearts and be waiting for the day we get to meet him again. Thank you again everyone for the help and support. Jamie, I am forever in your debt. Kristi

It is surprising he lasted as long as he did with looking like that. Poor boy.

i'm sorry you all think i starved him. Please remember i tried my best to do all i could for him. I tried so hard to get him better but it just wasnt possible. I thought he was 9 and didnt want to end his life so short. when i found out he was in his mid 20's i was more inclined to think of ending his suffering. If i'd known he was suffering I would have put him down sooner. I truly loved this horse with all my heart. Without him these past few days i've felt totally empty... is hard, so i hope no one thinks i'm this horrible person for how he looks. he was loved and fed tons. RIP beautiful boy, i will always love you.

He is extremely emaciated (despite a feeding program that should not cause him to be so thin) I would just like to reiterate what Jaime has already said. From what I understand, you were trying to help him. I don't think you are a horrible person. You did what may have been hard for you, but it was best for Cadillac. He deserved a dignified end, and you helped provide that for him. We all need a little help sometimes. Please don't feel bad for coming to SAFE to ask for it. It's what we're here to do. I, for one, would rather have someone come ask for help when it is needed rather than let the horse suffer.
