Hi all!!! I SO love talking about myself (lol) but I guess I can think of SOMETHING to say I have had horses most of my life and have always desperately wanted to do something to help out the horses in need. Up until I met my 3 year old QH rescue, Rebel, I had no idea how to even start. She and I have learned together that that old saying about love conquering all really does hold true. I have 3 kids, 4 mares (two pampered beginnings and 2 rescues), 2 dogs and one cat. I would give anything to be able to take on just ONE more but am at capacity so I am trying to find other ways to help out now. Anyway, hello!!! Nice to meet everyone!

Hi everybody! My daughter Sydney and I own four horses and we're always looking to help others. We have Bess Conclusion (Bessie), an 11 year old AQHA mare, her yearling daughter Lil Besscalade (Libby) who is by Cat67's stallion, an adorable black pony named Pepper and a mini named Cactus Flower. Sydney is taking lessons and Bessie is headed off for more training soon. I have a fence company, so I also meet a lot of horses that aren't my own! This is Bessie: Here's the baby, last summer: I need to get better pics of the little guys online.

I wonder if anyone needs a resource to look for equestrian properties?

'Ello.. I'm new to the site and I just think it's awesome that people have the heart to care for horses that have had hard pasts. I'm more than willing to help out any way I can. I even sent a volunteer app in. I love horses more than anything in the world, and really hope that I can help out with some of the SAFE horses!

Hi all. I thought I would introduce myself. I’m Somer, I have 2 daughters who are 8 & 11. We are out near Eatonville. We are all horse crazy. My 11 year old was scared of horses a year ago, but has come a long way in the last 6 months. We don’t have our own horse yet, but we have been able to share and help with our friend/landlord/neighbors 2 horses for the last 6 months. We have 2 cats that we got through a cat rescue. Before them we had a 3 legged Pit bull that we rescued from my brother who could take care of her. Sadly though she had cancer and we finally had to put her to sleep.
I learned to ride when I was about 12 with my best friend, and rode a lot with her until I was 17. I also took a horse care class about 10 years ago, even though I didn’t have my own horse. (Wishful thinking) My daughters have really learned in the last 6 months. I can’t get the 8 year old to clean her room, but she will go muck pastures. I never thought I could say “If you don’t clean your room you can scoop poop” and it would work.
We are slowly picking up things we will need to care for a horse. We have a place to have one, but have to get some bills paid off first. So I’ve been doing some brainstorming, which is how I found this site. I was thinking about finding someone who needed a pasture in exchange for letting us ride their horse. Then I saw that there is a need to foster horses. So I’m thinking about that too. I’m also looking into finding someone near us that may need some help in exchange for learning. I have a lot to think about and a lot to learn.
Now I am trying to figure out how to get some pictures on.

Hi all! I just joined today. I've been into horses since I was about twenty years old. I graduated college, decided a horse was a lot cheaper than a boyfriend, so I got rid of the boyfriend and went on horse search. Back then I would have went for a rescue horse, but truthfully I wasn't ready. I went and found a boarding facility (a lady who trained and raised saddlebreds) really close to where I lived and leased a stall from her. The stall sat empty for a long time while I searched for 'The perfect horse' (tm). She eventually hooked me up with a friend of hers (after looking at dozens of horses) who decided to move to Kentucky and wanted to sell her herd off. She introduced me to a half saddlebred/morgan mare that was her husbands saddlehorse and brood mare. I've had Sunny ever since (she's 25 now, she was 10 when I got her - talk about a forever home...) and have put about two thousand trail miles on her. I loved her instantly because she was a pinto and 16.2 hh with a big wise brood mare eye and a gentle disposition. After boarding a while, a friend of the owners needed to find some emergency homes for horses she rescued, so I got a call - would I like a pony for my niece free of charge? It was a total ruse! The friend dropped the 'pony off' claiming that she'd take the pony back if it didn't work out. This pony turned out to be a 18 hh 2000 Belgian draft mare. She was a blond snowflake palomino who was drop dead gorgeous (once we got her washed up, fattened up, and deloused!). She was re-homed to me knowing I was a sucker and wouldn't let her go after having met her (but its a big gulp to say yes to a draft without experience with them even though I love big horses). I was using my current saddlebred morgan mare for SCA stuff (ren faire etc) so she figured a draft would be hard to turn down for me after I met her (this mare was a charmer!). I kept her.. I couldn't help it. The Belgian wasn't trained for riding, but I found out about her history and that she was broke to drive and a champion as a two year old at one up in cart... so I got a cart and started driving her... soon we hopped on, and found out that driving draft horses make the transition to saddle really easily... and I've never looked back. I'm probably one of the biggest draft horse fans out there! I wouldn't trade mine for the world. And now, we've had our own place for a few years (I eventually changed my mind about boys and got married)... just a small little farm with a few acres, a barn, and our horse herd has grown to four plus a mini donk. We have an arab, a half-arab/half friesian, the saddlebred/morgan and my belgian plus a mini donkey who's more of our farm mascot (hes hopelessly in love with the draft mare and follows her around like a chick scurrying after his mother hen). We ride them all but the arab/friesan (whos only two) and mini and love them all like crazy. I can't say I'm an expert at anything. I'm just a working gal who's got a small herd, a small farm, no kids (I think I use horses and cats for my substitute children)... but I decided to join the boards so I could pipe in on some of the discussions, and would have a resource to lean on if we ever decided to get another horse which will be a rescue or a freebie since there are so many out there needing homes. Hopefully that won't be for a long time. We have four stalls in the barn, and they are full! Thankfully when I bought my first home, I only managed to find one with the perfect number of stalls for three plus one on the way. It controls my bleeding heart nicely (that and the hay bill!) I'll post some pictures of my four-footed kids when I figure out how. The avatar image is kinda squished, but its my draft mare as she looked at our wedding. I got interested in your boards after looking at the rescue situation in Washington. I've been reading the forums and lurking for a while, but never really had a reason to join. I'm fully convinced after reading blogs on the subject and living really close to the Chehalis auction that horses are bred way to often and then there's a noted lack of homes. If I ever get another horse, I'll definitely go the rescue route. Horses like my arab (black, 7 yo, absolutely loveable without a mean bone in her body) who was a freebie rescue too deserve homes that care. So I joined because I think some of the most forgotten unwanted animals are drafts, I've seen it time and time again.... so don't hesitate or second guess an animal just because its huge. My draft does great with low level dressage, driving, trail riding, re-enactment scenarios... there's nothing she won't try willingly after learning to trust people folk again.
