Thanks for the update on Kokomo. I think about him every day and hope to get to see him someday soon. He's imprinted on my heart for sure!

THanks J, for all the updates.
This: "He'll be first on the list to have brain surgery..." made me crack up! He obviously is feeling much better. ;D

I had the most fun someone can have picking out rain-rot scabs off of Kokomo today. He's a cutie and I'm so happy to have been able to meet him. I'd say he's looking much better and it's obvious he's well loved where he's at. Thanks for having me out!

Since I think I've got this photo thing figured out, here's a photo from my fun Day with Kokomo. Snow and Rain-rot...it was all worth it just to meet this special guy!

And now it is Kokomo who gave me a scare today, with a mild colic. I went out to brush him today, and he was laying down but got right up and had his brushing. However, as soon as I was done and moved on to Lily, he lay back down again. He was down the whole time Allison and I were working on the other horses, and I noticed his breathing seemed a bit heavy. When he finally got up, he pooped but was straining. Walked a few steps, stopped and strained again. I took his heart rate and it was high - 72 - so I called Dr. Hannah. He had good gut sounds but the little poops he was passing were pretty hard. She gave him some IV banamine, some electrolytes, and some Ranitidine, and we put him in a stall and I am monitoring him tonight. So far he seems normal, has passed on small poop pile and has not layed down again. He's getting small amounts of soaked hay until he shows us he is drinking and pooping normally. We are also going to do another fecal on him to see if we have gotten all the worms. Poor little guy!

Yikes, how is he doing today? You know, Friday when I was there he was lying down in the grass, I thought it was lovely to see him so relaxed. It never occurred to me something might be wrong with him. Also, there's a new piece by Monica, which features Kokomo (a little bit). Good piece, and something I am interested in following up - why NOT a partnership between a rescue, a county and maybe AC and/or a veterinarian interested in rescue horses and rehab? (I need to mention, tho, that I work at a very specialized health care law firm, because some of my coworkers there are now also donors and supporters of SAFE and read the message board ... nothing wrong with family law, of course, except there is generally a little more drama involved than I'm interested in...) blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/horsebytes/[reposted after modifying seemed to lock up my computer....]

He's doing much better, although was very unhappy and hungry spending the day in the stall only getting small amounts of soaked hay. By evening though he seemed totally fine and had passed several piles of manure, so I went ahead and turned him back out with Lily. I'll keep a close eye on him, but hopefully he just had a little tummyache and is all better now!

Kokomo is doing just fine now and hopefully will be moving to Edensgate farm along with Lily to hang out where Cedar and Rhythm live sometime later this week.
