I'm so sorry for all parties involved- to be so close, it must be very sad. Hopefully when the time is right, it will all work out!

How is Cedar doing since the failed adoption? Still improving and being a good girl, I hope...

Cedar was moved to Jaime's yesterday so she can continue work in the arena. She loaded up well, but is in a raging heat and leaned all her weight aginst the trailer divider and kicked when we attempted to persuade her to move so we could close the divider. She hauled with the divider open. She now resides in one of the new winter paddocks, next door to Little Miss, and settled in nicely. I am excited to working with her in the arena where the footing is more predictable and we can work on lateral movement. She is still a good girl and total sweetheart, but could use more muscling over her topline. Ah, TB's

My fiance and I are interested in meeting (and possibly adopting!) Cedar - who do we talk to? If possible, we would love to come meet her this weekend

Cedar is the strangest mare I have ever met. When she is in heat (which seems to be often), she gets this dazed look on her face. She will lean on anything and does a lot of butt-pressing. She's not nasty or anything, just kind of out of it. But the worst is this last time she was in heat. Every time I would approach the gate close to her or even walk by she would turn her butt to me and start peeing all over the place. To me!! GROSS..... And she won't move either, she was blocking the gate when I was trying to go in to fill her water, just peeing away, so I finally turned the hose on and sprayed her a little to snap her out of it and get her to move! The funny thing is she is not nasty or squealy or anything like that, just completely zoned out. I might try the raspberry leaves on her..she shouldn't even be cycling right now but she still is, and frequently. Other than that though, she's a sweet girl, very easy going and easy to deal with.

LOL
Lady is also in heat right now, and she too loves to rub her butt on anything (and everything) .. completely in a daze. She has never tried to pee on me before, but usually there is a gelding nearby she can wink at... LOL!
oh.. MARES!

He cycle is like clockwork but at least she isn't mean. When she was so underweight I don't recall her cycling at all, but once she got better it showed up. I wonder if her malnutrition had anything to do with it.
One thing for sure, she is no picnic to ride when she is in heat. Any leg pressure will put her at a standstill!

A lot of mares seem to be in heat right now. My friend's arab in in heat, and a paint mare just went out of heat. The heat cycles are supposed to be controlled by day length, but maybe with the warm weather we've been having in the northwest their bodies are confused.

What a great story! As I was reading through the threads I kept saying, please still be available, please still be available. Is Cedar still available for adoption? I am relocating to WA in February and in search of a mount to bring along in dressage and possibly 3-day. How can I get in touch with you directly?

Definitely try the raspberry leaves (Mare Magic) on her. It does amazing things to mares and geldings.
