Hi everyone, Cedar's been at her new home for exactly 30 days today. It's been a very exciting month! She's made outstanding progress all around. She's had scratches which are clearing up thanks to daily washing/drying and medicating - and she went from kicking like a can-can girl to being relatively calm even with the stingy/cold antiseptic soap. She's in a full set of shoes and the farrier is working to correct underrun hooves. She had a full body clip and on chilly nights she's in a stable blanket and heavy-weight winter blanket. During the recent cold spell she was in two heavy-weight winter blankets but the first warm morning she somehow managed to worm her way out of the top blanket which was wadded up in the corner of her stall as if to say "I was really too hot with two blankets on". She loves, loves, loves to role in mud. She's on a joint/ligament/hoof, multivitamin and weight builder supplements. She's in full training with Lisa Shane, riding four to six times a week. She holds her head down to put her halter and bridle on, doesn't step back when the bridle goes on. She's no longer terrified of the indoor arena including the spooky corner, the gate to the arena and the sunlight casting eerie shadows. All the leg aides are really starting to click for her, she's doing wonderfully with her transitions including in/out of canter (another big step), her top line has lengthened out quite a bit, she's rarely tossing her head (this is a big change), went out on a trail ride a couple days ago and yesterday she went over jumps in the indoor arena! It's been absolutely amazing to watch her progress and she has a huge heart, very level-headed and really wants to do good. She's the belle of the barn and getting lots of attention and compliments. Here are some pictures of my much-loved girl taken on Dec 26th Attachments:

She looks great! I bet Cedar loves all the attention, and she really seemed to like jumping; I can't wait to see how far you and Lisa take her

Cedar's training for flat work and just recently added in some intro to jumping , not dressage. I considered both options - I'm in training, too and have a lot of work to do along w/ Cedar, and ended up deciding to focus on flat work and jumping.
A few details I left out above... She's been through a heat cycle and didn't exhibit any of her previous behaviors! No leaning, peeing or zoning out. During grooming and putting on her tack, she now readily moves to the side with reasonable pressure request rather than standing her ground like a tank!

SAFE was recently devastated to learn that Cedar County Queen was humanely euthanized. Cedar was a lovely TB mare rescued from a neglect situation in early 2008. She was adopted to a wonderful home in 2009 but after a few months in full training at a hunter/jumper facility began to show signs of extreme pain in her pelvic area. After several months of careful rehab she seemed to improve but then over the summer declined again and the difficult decision to euthanize was made by her loving adoptive mom Lori. RIP sweet Cedar and we send our sincere condolences to Lori for her loss as well.

There's a really big Thoroughbred sized hole in my heart this evening. Cedar was an amazing girl & very loved by all at SAFE as well as fans all over.
She gave me my first TB ride and carried me gracefully. I sat there on her later and pondered what anyone who had the pleasure of riding her must have contemplated. "How can I keep her?"
You will be missed Cedar....
and thank you to Lori for giving Cedar a loving home and a peaceful end.

RIP Cedar. We all had such hopes for you... I think everyone who rode this naturally talented mare received a gift - to dismount feeling like a better rider.
