I've read a couple disturbing posts on craigslist about this place. I emailed one of the posters and this is the email I received back: "the person who was asking about farmland which has bought puppies from puppy mills for years and they live in terrible conditions here is kitsap county no one will do anything and hasn’t thus far they have been around for at least 20 years animal control and the Sherriff has been in there never does a thing and puppies have died in there its hot and small it’s a pet/ feed store" Does anyone in that area know anything about this place? www.farmlandpets.com/If you look at the puppy page, they have a ton of different breeds and they say they get in new puppies every Tuesday. Sounds suspicious.

My opinion is that any bad thing you hear about Farmland Pets & Feed is true.
They buy puppies from a "breeder" in the midwest. It's a puppy mill for sure. The dogs are unhealthy and most seem to require hernia surgery or other medical attention. They also sell them at incredibly high prices. And people buy them.
I have heard second hand from someone who knew someone who worked there that rather than pay for a vet to care for a sick puppy, they killed it by putting it in the freezer. I've heard first hand from someone who worked there that they have on several occasions refused to call the vet for other sick pups.
The puppies are kept in a tiny enclosed room filled with cages and bins that reeks to high heaven. The pups are definitely not well cared for.
The place is truly awful and I do not understand why they have never been shut down.

I have heard the puppy mill rumor, too. Have never been in the place, but I was at the Humane Society on Saturday and overheard someone saying that every animal they ever bought from Farmland died.

If they did a news story already, maybe the reporter should be contacted again. I think that is the way they finally closed the Scamps stores around here.
I do not understand why people buy from these sorts of places. I will not even go in them anymore because of the sad little faces. But if people did not buy them, soon they would not carry them. My sister bought a puppy from one of these places, it cost her about $600 in vet bills, they would of taken it back and replaced it because it got sick within their guarantee time frame, but they would have put it down, so my sister kept the poor thing.
Almost any dog breed can be found in any area. Doing research and going to a show is a good way to find a good breeder. Check for known genetic defects on the breed you want by internet research, then make sure the breeder does not allow those defects in its breeding program.

It's so sad seeing them in the little cages. I don't go in any stores that sell puppies either. Even if you can't find a breeder in your area, with the internet, you can always find a reputable breeder and have the puppy shipped. Go to the AKC website to find the Breed Parent Club or a club in your area. Even if the puppy is more expensive up front, you'll probably save money in the long run in the form of fewer vet bills. I already have a breeder in Walla Walla picked out for my next Lab puppy and one in CA for my next Pointer puppy. :-)

Living out on this side of the water - I have been to Farmland a few times. It is horrifying. The puppys are CRAZY priced, and in HORRID conditions. I have banned this place to recieve one dime of my money - no matter how badly I might need something. If there is a way to open some kind of exposure - I am fully in support!

I have banned this place to recieve one dime of my money - no matter how badly I might need something. As someone who also lives in the area, I can testify as to how hard this can be. There are not a lot of options for horse feed, especially near Silverdale, and considering that Cenex closes at 5pm (!), life would be a whole lot simpler if patronizing Farmland was an option. They are so vile that it's worth the inconvenience of not shopping there.
