Hey everyone!
Thought I would share my little story. At the time it was about year or so since I had to let go of my beloved AQHA golden champagne and sadly was pretty bitter about it. Funny enough though when you get started with horses you really can't ever go back to not having them in your life. So I was feeling a little better about everything and just happened to look on Petfinder.com for rescue horses to see what was out there.
A gelding by the name of Truffles caught my attention immediately because he looked so much like the horse I had to give up. So I started to find out more info about the horse and found out he was a feedlot horse from CBER. At the time I did not know much about this "rescue" group and all the negative things about them.
At the time I only really wanted to help out the horse by donating some funds since I really couldn't take on a horse but in the end got stuck with taking him home and making arrangements. I'm not going to lie it was actually very frustrating and it dealt with doing very late minute things such as finding a place for him to live! But it turned out to be the greatest thing that ever happened!!
I got extremely lucky in that my horse wasn't aggressive, wasn't lame, and didn't have any other serious problems that you hear of from most CBER horses. Not to mention that I only had to pay $150 for transport and $20 for "worming" that I have no clue if it ever took place. I've read of some scary stories from this place!!
Anyways to make a long story short we decided to change his name since Truffles did NOT fit him. We changed it to Haku which is sorta an inside joke between my husband and I. But I think it really fits. This boy went from poor ugly horse to such a gorgeous and wonderful horse!
Not to long after I had him I was able to get on and ride bareback with my husband leading him around. Was very surprising and pleasing to find. About a year ago I ended up having to sell him for financial reasons. He went to a FANTASTIC family who's taken great care and has brought him a long way then where he started off from. I will actually getting him back in a few months and I'm so excited!!!
Anyways here are some photos of BEFORE and AFTER ;D
Showing off his tail that I spent about and hour or so on.
A day or two after we got Haku... He really liked my hubby.
This is actually a funny story... I seriously thought someone TOOK my horse because he looked SO different then what I remembered him. It had only been a few days too. LOL Crapy qual. because it was taken with my phone.
He's SO handsome without the winter coat!
Before I had to let him go but its not a sad image anymore!
