handsome Deeds needs a new foster home! Ever considered fostering a SAFE horse? Here's your opportunity! Deeds needs to be moved into a new foster home for the winter while he awaits his permanent home. If you have horse facilities that include shelter, an individual paddock or pasture, and safe fencing (no barbed wire) and you would like to house a horse on a temporary basis, please download a foster application from our website ( www.safehorses.org/about/policies.html) and submit it to jaime@safehorses.org. If you'd like to know more about fostering or about Deeds himself, please don't hesitate to ask! If we are unable to find a new foster home for Deeds, we will most likely end up boarding him for the short term.

I worked with Mr. Deeds on Saturday. He is coming around very nicely. He was really uppity on the lunge line, just playing and a couple bucks, but was great under saddle. He was a bit hot but not stupid or spooky; he wanted to work! I can feel that he is still "off" when tracking right, but if you post on the wrong diagonal you can't tell

I would love to bring him out to be with Finn... we're all the way over here in the East Side (at least we're dry!) though.

Deeds doesn't play well with others, but he is sweet as pie if kept separated. He is a dominant horse and will pin his ears at the horses across the fence, but he loves his humans. He is a blast to ride and has the BEST ground manners.

Finn's too geeky and accident prone to get turned out with anyone else anyway. He appreciates a buddy through a fence. If I had a trailer, I would bring him home and board him with Finn. His eye is so beautiful... wonderful TB expression.

Careful, Angel; where there's a will, there's a way Deeds does have a beautiful face, a very expressive eye. And he is a gorgeous mover with floaty gaits and natural cadence. He could have been the PERFECT hunter. Too bad he was raced till he broke. A sad fate for many thoroughbreds. Seriously though, I love this horse.

I worked with Deeds again over the weekend, and he was pretty stiff. Probably due to the cold weather we have been having. He was pretty lazy on the lunge and under saddle, and due to his stiffness, I just did walk/trot circles and serpentines with him. He still doesn't give to pressure real well, but he tries and is such a gentleman on the gound.
He is starting to chew on the bit and soften his jaw, so I am getting a little bit of foam which is a good sign. I am looking forward to taking him on the trails to see how he does.

We moved Deeds to a boarding place over by Bonnie yesterday. He'll have a stall and attached paddock as well as turnout. He gave us a little trouble about getting in the trailer but then when he realized we were serious about it he walked right in. I expected much worse.

There's a very special place in my heart for Mr. Deeds. I hope to become a monthly sponsor for him. Do you think he would be a good candidate for a home where he would not be ridden much but would be allowed to live in a stall with a paddock and pasture? I was wondering if he needs MORE exercise or less because of his prior racing career.

Beth, at this point he would do best with less riding rather than more due to his previous injuries and arthritis, so what you propose is exactly what he needs! Mr. Deeds would be thrilled to have you as his sponsor!

Deeds is currently at a boarding facility over on the olympic penninsula where he can be checked on regularly by Jaybird. We never did find him the perfect foster home.

If I didn't think my fiancee would kill me, I would have taken this guy in in an instant! He appreciates me paying money for something I love so much, but I think he knows if I bring in ONE more... that will easily turn into two! haha
Although, I would be willing to bet that boarding is cheaper over on this side than that side.

I'm going to try and make a monthly donation for Mr. Deeds' care -- to be one of his sponsors! My husband and I have recently purchased 1.4 acres and we are building a house there (breaking ground this weekend!) My dream would be to have a rescue horse there who doesn't need to be ridden too much (although I am taking riding lessons as we speak), but who just needs some loving care, a secure home and whatever food/supplements/medication he/she needs. I can't have much more than just one though -- so it would need to be a horse that can handle the less social aspects. I might be able to get a goat as a companion.

ecaitlynn, thank you so much for this generous offer. We will be unveiling our sponsorship program in the next day or two, and we would love it if you wanted to be a sponsor for Deeds.
As far as owning a rescue horse that doesn't need to be ridden too much, that is not a problem AT ALL. We have many horses that have old injuries that prevent them from doing much more than light riding...and it is hard to find good homes for them because a lot of people just want horses that are "useful." A dream adopter would be someone like yourself who just wants to give a horse a safe and loving home....so please, when you are ready, submit an adoption application and I am sure we can help you find a horse to help.
thanks so much and welcome to SAFE!
