I am not sure "we" want to spend the $ that my vet will charge for dental. I paid almost 5oo for my TB. We can haul him somewhere or maybe Bonnie's vet is a little cheaper? Or we can have my vet...but I am just trying to be economical. The vet is coming today for my pony, so I will have his shots updated. What series do you want? the basics or the whole enchilada? For my own horses, I only do the basics. I am not in favor of large amounts of vaccinations.......my opinion for my horses only.....Jack can have whatever you feel he needs. Just let me know.

Has he had anything since you got him? I normally stick to West Nile in the spring (he'll need a booster in a month if he hasn't had it before), flu/rhino, and tetanus.

Today he was vaccinated for Flu/Rhino, EWT, as well as West Nile.
Let me know what you decide about his teeth.

Jack is turning into a more normal horse... since I have been feeding twice a day now, I am able to see how much he has changed. It used to be that when you approached his gate, he would take off....in case you were thinking about catching him, he would take no chances. You could never adjust his blanket or take it off without haltering him and holding him with a lead rope. This morning, I showed up to feed and he was waiting by the gate, actually nickered at me. I threw hay to everyone, then grained them......when I grain Jack, I always offer him a handful first before just dumping grain into his feeder...then I pat his nose. anyway, I decided since the day is promising to be so glorious, that I would take blankets off, so they could enjoy the sun and roll later. I took Pete and Ollie's off in their stalls.....no worries as they are busy eating and know the drill. Then I think......hmm.....I am dressed for work......I really don't want to chase Jack down....but hmmm.....I don't want to leave him blanketed.....oh....dang, I guess I will just have to chase him....but maybe I will try without a halter first. Probably won't work.... So I go into his paddock, he is eating grain....I speak to him.....he reaches out to smell my hair....(he loves my hair for some reason), then I pat his neck, step to the side and start undoing leg straps, then belly straps ......voila.....then the chest straps.....WOOO HOOOOO.......I pull the blanket off and he never moves. I pat him again and say what a good boy he is.
He is really making some progress as one of my horses.....I expect next he will be backing up to get his butt scratched!...well, I can hope......right?

He's actually at Bonnie's in Silverdale right now. We are planning on sending him for training though...waiting to hear back from the trainer to see how soon we can get him in.

Jack update!
Jack has been staying here at my place for the past month or so, in preparation to go into training. He is headed to Cam Reeves for 30 days of training. Normally SAFE couldn't afford a trainer like Cam, but he and his wife Carrie and The Jones Farm in Maple Valley donated a training/boarding package to the Pony Up Auction that was held last November and SAFE was the winning bidder. So Jack is going to be the beneficiary of this generous donation.
Jack continues to do well. I just glanced out at him eating his breakfast in my front pasture and noticed that he actually has dapples! So big big thanks to slew for feeding him up over the winter and getting him back into good condition.
He is a rather shy horse, and will skitter away from you if you approach him too forcefully. But if you take the time to reassure him, he will allow himself to be caught, brushed, led, etc. We've done a little bit of groundwork and he does not appear to know how to lunge, so our sessions were devoted to simply getting him to move forward a step or two. He tries to understand, and he pays pretty close attention to you when you are handling him, so that's a positive thing.
He is definitely low horse on the totem pole around here...as I was noticing his dapples, I also noticed Oliver saunter over to take Jack's pile of hay, and Jay pin his ears at Jack in case he was thinking of trying to eat his. Jack is pretty good natured himself, and he does seem to enjoy playing with the other boys. He's a cute mover, and I will try to get a tiny video of him before he leaves.
He leaves on Saturday, by the way. He only gets 30 days in training, so we are hoping that that is enough. Now that he is starting training, we are open to looking at applications for him, so if you are interested in Jack, please do send one in.

Thunder stealer! just kidding. I was uploading them as I was running out the door today so didnt have a chance to post. The watermarks should all be off now. I'm missing a couple of pictures (and one is my favorite of him!) so I'll add them to this post later. ;D Jack is so sweet and shy, much more laid back than the other boys at Bonnies. Wasnt to keen on getting caught, but once he was he was a pretty good boy. While Honeycutt and the guys were tearing it up in the field, Jack was standing with Bonnie, seeming to be wondering what all the fuss was about. I'm excited to find out what this guy knows and will learn while hes at training! more later!

I just spoke to Cam Reeves for an update on Jack's progress after his first seven days of training. Short answer is things are proceeding slowly. Jack has been saddled, bridled, long-lined, and ponied. Cam has put his weight into the stirrup and is planning to actually sit on him tomorrow. Jack is extremely headshy, and not only that, if he sees any kind of movement towards him head, he will jump away. Cam's been trying to get him used to the hotwalker, but is having problems, probably because of the way the line attached to the halter from above. He is pretty sure that Jack is unstarted...apparently he bucked like crazy when the saddle went on. He also does not yield to the bit and bend when being driven (long-lined), he stiffens through his neck when asked to yield. So it doesn't appear that Jack knows much of anything. Cam's also been working on getting Jack to allow him to stand next to him on a box, and that has also been a struggle as Jack wants to skitter away when he gets nervous. All in all, Jack is progressing, but not at a very fast pace. We'll have to be patient.
