I haven't posted about Jack lately......
well, he is eating like a house on fire and I am proud to announce we will be cutting his grain back as he is getting a little tubby. He has also decided that we mere mortals must work to catch him. Once haltered he gives up acting like a wild mustang. He will be getting his feet done again this next weekend. anyway, he has ripped the legstrap off of one leg of his new jacket...but it is keeping him toasty dry still. He does not always like to stand in his loafing shed, he likes to stand in the rain. He also loves the devil pony Beaver. Beaver likes to get in with him when ever he can, so he can eat his food and chase Jack around. Jack always cries when I separate them. He really would like Beaver to stay with him.
I will try to get pictures if it ever stops raining........

so ......jack and Beaver were together all day. It may not surprise you to find out that Jack's new blanket was trashed. I am not talking trashed as in it can be fixed trashed. I am talking trashed as in I picked up parts and bits of it, then burned it.
I bought him a new DRY blanket yesterday ........
I can tell you this.......Beaver hates it that the other horses wear blankets.....he does his best to get rid of the pesky things. That is how it started.
Last year, I hung two horse blankets on the fence to dry........came back and both were ripped to shreds......courtesy of Beaver.

Maybe Beaver is jealous and wants his own blankie? At the very least he may be distracted trying to destroy eat and leave Jack's alone....

NOOOOOOOO....Beaver had his own pony sized Rambo blanket.....but had it off in like ten minutes, then ripped it to shreds. He detests a blanket. I really wanted him to wear one but it seems futile.
It is also seeming to be futile to keep he and Jack separate. Jack adores him.......and well, he wants Jack's food. ........so he busts into Jack's paddock......through three hot wires.
he is getting on my last nerve.

"Beaver Beaver - we're gonna take out your teeth I'm saying Beaver Beaver - you'll only have mash to eat!" Sang to the Peter Peter song melody I knew as a kid! Very much kidding though!

Okay, I had enough of Beaver getting through the fence and chasing Jack.
I went through every stretch of fence, tightened the ground connection and the fence is HOTTER THAN HE__ now. No more escapes.
Yesterday, I shoveled mud for three hours in Jack's paddock to make another exit to the extra pasture. I am sick of mud and needed to let his old pasture rehab a bit. Anyway, Jack got turned out in a mud free paddock with big trees and he was happy......running and bucking, looking around the trees.....but he had to make sure he could see Beaver. He is fond of the little rascal.
Jack got his feet done two weeks ago......no issues. He is still hard to catch and worried about what you are going to do to him, but he settles down with pats and a soft voice.
He still has his new blanket on and his weight is good. He eats like a house on fire. I think he figures he has to...in case Beaver gets in his loafing shed.
Jack's mane and forelock are growing out. I will have to trim him up "even" pretty soon.
I fed Christmas breakfast this morning and each horse got three Fuji apples in their grain. They loved them. Then I gave them Mrs. Pastures horse cookies from Santa.
It was a nice quiet COLD morning while I cleaned stalls, filled waters, check fences.......very peaceful. My caretaker is gone for the holidays so I am feeding/cleaning and "watching". It was nice hearing the birds, the horses eating and seeing their breath rise up ...wish I could do this for a living.
Merry Christmas to everyone!
Jack wants his own family for the New Year! He should be ready for some training and evaluation after January. His mind should be rested and his body in good health. He is a very handsome horse and big too! He fills up his size 84 blanket now.

Jack is good.......he desperately wants to be in with Beaver.
I can hardly wait for spring, to take blankets off and have dry land again!
Jack is ready to go for training. His weight is very good, he has great hooves and he has had a mental rest. We need to see what Jack knows and what he needs help with.
I guess I will lobby for training funds come March.

I wish my work computer let me see photos. Jack sounds like a great horse who will make someone very happy. I will see how much $$ I can gather to help with his training or what not that he needs.
