My old, crabby but endlessly entertaining mare, Buffy, had to be put to sleep today. She enjoyed a really great last few months of bossing my trainer's ponies around. Buffy had been the Boss Mare in a herd all her life and was very upset when she got creaky and old and couldn't kick everybody's butt anymore, so we put her in with the ponies and let her be queen of the Munchkins and think she was a big deal again. Buffy had points in nine events in ABRA (Buckskin) and had a half-dozen registered foals. After that, she raised Frankie, my 2 year old, who was orphaned at four days. She taught him manners so that I did not have a spoiled colt to deal with. I had her for the last year and a half of her life and am glad I was able to give her the nice retirement she deserved. Buffy this past summer: Buffy and baby Frankie chasing me down for carrots in summer 2007 The face Buffy made when you scratched her withers.

Cat... Sorry for your loss but inspired by the noble jobs she was given and obviously performed with grace.
RIP Buffy

The older ones are so Noble. Wisdom and experience is so lost these days.
RIP Buffy

Sorry to hear about Buffy. She certainly was a mare who deserved a good retirement.

Im sorry to hear about Buffy, who in my mind is still Dee. I bought her as a 2 year old from Taylor Ranch in Grants Pass and won many halter awards with her at the local show. I sold her after she gave birth to her first foal in 1993 and it has always been something I regretted. Her first daughter, Phoebe, is 17 this year and still looking great. I have two geldings from her, a 10 year old and a 6 year old. I have been hoping for years for a filly, but it wasn't to be. I would have loved to get another horse with her awesome golden buckskin color which she inherited from Miss Dusty Devils. I have pics of her daughter and grandsons if you are interested. I loved that mare and had I known she was looking for a home would have bought her back. Thanks for making her last year or so a good one. thirdstone33@gmail.com
