We're happy to announce that Buckie has been adopted. (well, I'm heartbroken, but happy nonetheless.) His new home is in Beavercreek, OR, with a wonderful couple -- Kathy and Kevin-- who were looking for a horse that their grandkids could ride. They met Buckie and Shante at the SAFE Benefit Show, and were interested in adopting both horses. At a second meeting, Kathy rode Shante and decided he was perfect for them, but Buckie was slightly off at the trot, so he was not ridden. But Kathy and Kevin offered to take Buckie anyway, as a foster with the possibility of adopting. I'm happy to say that they fell in love with the little guy, and despite the fact that he may not be a suitable mount for an inexperienced rider, they have decided to adopt Buckie as well. Here are some photos from the day that Kathy and Kevin came out for a second meeting with Shante and Buck. These pictures were taken at Robin's farm (Bella's foster home) after Robin came to the rescue to help us get Buckie and Shante away from the show grounds after the show was over: Kathy has joined this bulletin board, and I'm hoping that she will keep us up to date on Buck's progress and of course, send pictures!!

That saddle does not fit the horse. Please make sure the saddles fit these horses or they will become problem horses down the road. I would never sell a horse to someone whose saddle does not fit.

No, but you would send them to slaughter? Very paradoxical once again, jolt1. Kind of hard to make that judgement with the picture given. It doesn't look like it is pinching his withers and they have him well padded, and it might have been a saddle that was borrowed in order for her to have a test ride. Find out the details before making a judgement call as pictures, just like people, can be misleading!

Having thicker pads does not help. It's not sitting on the withers but guaranteed it is pinching him. Look how low that saddle fits. Learn your horse stuff before opening your mouth to me. Also the saddle is placed farther back then it should. That horse will become a problem. I don't send all horses to slaughter. Yes I have sent 1 to slaughter only, just because he was a dangerous horse.

Well a person can always buy a new saddle, right? What makes you think that it does not fit anyway? Especially when you are just looking at a picture.

Jolt, while the content of your concern is valid......the way it was phrased is guaranteed to set people's nerves on edge. Just as you expect others to "learn their stuff" it is appropriate for Avery to suggest that you could inquire if it was a borrowed saddle or to constructively suggest that a saddle fitting is in order. It is offensive in this particular forum to attack those who foster and adopt. It is never offensive to offer help in a genuine manner.

Learn your horse stuff before opening your mouth to me. Agree with Chelsea, the content of your concern is valid but the way you chose to express it is fairly accusatory considering you have no idea of any of the facts. Furthermore, the response to averyacres above was entirely personal and personal attacks are NOT tolerated on this board. Consider this your first (and only) warning.I have allowed you to remain here despite your obvious support of slaughter as I feel it is important to welcome other sides and opinions here, even if I and everyone else on this board wholeheartedly disagrees with your viewpoints. Nevertheless, if you break the rules here I will not feel badly about banning you.

If he was dangerous, why didn't you just have it put down? I'm sure the usual reason, "greed," came into play...

How very rude.
Learn your horse stuff?
What I have learned is that you should "see" before you speak about what you "assume".
That is an australian saddle, which fits more like a western saddle......you can't even see the pommel.....unless you have some kind of keener vision that the rest of us.
I have used those thick western pads often (with english a/p saddles because they do keep things from pinching if the fit is marginal.)
Keep your mean comments to yourself.........we have no need of that business here. What makes you more of a horse expert than the rest of us......you don't even know us.
and ps........my personal feeling is that if you sent a horse to slaughter......you don't belong here.
