CONGRATULATIONS KAREN AND BASSETT!! Bassett is now officially adopted, and lives in Wilsonville, OR with Karen and her family. Bassett will be (is) Karen's trusty trail mount. She has truly hit the jackpot with Karen! We're thrilled for both of them, this is a great match!

Bassett wishes everyone a Happy New Year! I adopted her this fall after serving as a foster home for two months. Bassett's new home is in Newberg, Oregon on our farm. She has her own paddock with a stall and receives pasture time each day. I have been riding her several times a week in my outdoor arena and on the trails around the orchards. She is still rather green but coming along nicely.
Bassett is very brave...she does not spook when chased by our sheep as we trot by or when we encounter deer in the dark! She is very smart and seems to enjoy being ridden. We have had several interesting situations like the time my mother and I put a blanket with leg straps on her....she was ok with the blanket until she decided to eat some hay. The leg straps must have tightened and she started kicking with both hind feet! Three big kicks and the stall burst apart into the aisleway....Bassett ran out into her paddock, it scared her so much. My mother and I couldn't believe it. I went outside and found her in the dark, caught her and took off that blanket without further incident.
We are really enjoying Bassett. Sometimes, in the evening, she likes me to hold her head (which is very heavy) and pet her nose before we turn in for the night. I feel very fortunate to have found her.

Sounds like an excellent partnership... and I hope your stall recovered!

Karen, so glad to see you here! I'm glad that the only casualty in the blanket incident was the stall wall, phew! She was blanketed at Katie's place, but that was nearly 2 years ago, and I don't recall if she had a tail strap or leg straps - so perhaps this was her first time with a wedgie? Love the head-in-hands story. She obviously trusts you a lot, as well she should.

So wonderful to see lil ol shy Bassett being a pocket pony. Remember Cardi, when we went to Kati's and how stand-offish she was..
Good luck to you , Karen. She's one special girl.

Had a really nice visit with Karen and Basset this weekend. Basset has truly settled in, and clearly likes Karen - she watches everything Karen does, comes right up to her to be caught, and has a really soft eye with her. She also looks great! Arrival: Mounted shot: B and K amongst the hazelnut trees!

Basset is *available* again mainly due to some changed circumstances in her adopter's life.
A few months ago, Basset fell at the canter. Karen was teaching her to canter and Basset tripped in a hole coming around the corner of my ring at a pretty fast clip.
Karen wanted her to learn to canter slowly so placed her in professional training for a month in February.
It worked out so well that Basset is still in training, being ridden by a teenager. The pro continues to train her while Karen looks for her new home.

Any more news on Bassett? Was the fall purely accidental or was there something wrong that made Bassett fall?

She fell at a corner, at the canter - so balance was the issue, not anything sinister.
She is still at the trainer's and awaits a new home.
