Well that explains the foster offer I received yesterday talking about how she saw an article saying that we needed foster care in Pierce County....that's a little inaccurate...I think if we were really hard up for foster homes we would consider one that far away but the farther away the foster home the harder it is to manage.
Also, this part was news to me: The show will feature a variety of classes in horsemanship that will range from an introductory lesson in "How to Enjoy Your Horse" for folks new to horse ownership, to advanced equestrian showmanship.
Is that true?
But, thanks for doing the interview Maeve, Jet and Kim! And what a cute photo!

Like I said, there's a few things in the article that I'm not sure where he got the information or how he could have interpreted it the way he did. I told him we have horses in foster care all over Western Washington but that most are up north.
He asked if we'd foster horses in Pierce County and I told him we'd be open to it but that we'd have to set them up before hand with a site check, application, etc...So I can see how that line came but I didn't say that we were in need at this time...
...plus....I don't recall anything about offering "classes" at the show coming up in the conversation anywhere...
Overall, I believe he quoted me accurately, I'm just not sure where the rest came from. I believe he went to the website to get the information on qualifications for foster homes/adopters.
I do wish he'd mentioned that we were actually going to bring SAFE Horses to the show and to come meet them! More towards the adoption of horses rather than the fostering. But I guess in the press we can't dictate how we want things to go...it's how they see it.

I wonder if he misunderstood the word "class"? As in, a class for learning vs. a class in a show. That's how I'm reading it, anyway. I bet he got on the website and read the showbill. "A class in advanced equestrian showmanship" sounds like a non-horseperson trying to sound intelligent in describing a showmanship class.

I think he misunderstood what "classes meant". He asked me what the classes would offer, and if we would have classes on how to take care of your horse. I told him this show was all about enjoying your horse, and began to describe what classes we would offer: trail, showmanship etc. I think he took that to mean that there would be classes on "how to enjoy your horse". Bruce is a very nice guy, and he has been instrumental in making sure that horse related stories, especially rescue related stories, are getting the attention they deserve. He may not be a horse person, but he does care about what happens in the horse world.
