Update: Ariel got her very first hose down last night. I can't say that she loved it, but she was a pretty good girl.
She is so much more easy going than my other two! I just love her personality and am so thankful that she was born at SAFE and ended up with me.

Oh, that's so great. These last few days pushed me to add the "hose" to our kids regimine as well. I wanted to make sure we could keep them comfy and cool and be able to administer "emergency cooling" if needed. Better to have the experience and comfort level prior to a heat stroke than compound the drama on top of a health problem. I was very proud of Emma because she pretends she is afraid of the fly spray bottle let alone the hose but I think she got the picture when she watched our TB get the first cool down. She was a little tentative at first but we worked it slowly and tried to make it a game. By the end she was really enjoying the cool down and even running thru the spray afterward when I was cleaning around the barn. Dutchess is getting hosed off as her cool down after her training sessions at the trainers arena and she loves it. She has always been so rock solid. First thing she did when they introduced the hose was go over and start drinking out of the nozzle. ;D I guess 105 degree weather will make any horse rethink their priorities. It's so fun to see Ariel doing so well! She's so big from when I saw her last. She was only a few months old then. They grow so fast.

Ariel is still being a very good girl. I started teaching her to tie. It doesn't take her very long to "get" what she's supposed to do. Here are some pictures I took of her this weekend. I took them with my phone so they're not the best. That's my daughter with her. She gave Ariel some braids and wanted a picture of the two of them. :-) Attachments:

Ariel is 2 years old now. She's gone through a little grow spurt lately. I was starting to worry that she would stay yearling size forever! Here are some pics I took this week. It's hard to get pictures of her unless I'm on the other side of the fence or she's busy eating. She follows me around and all I can get is a shot of her nostrils. Ariel Ariel and Dox (he's huge) Ariel and Nellie (Nellie is about 14.1 hh, I think). Ariel is getting close to her height. Mowing the lawn: And for those of you that know something about color in Arabs, what the heck is her color doing? She's getting a ton of white hairs throughout her coat and the sabino markings are getting larger, too. It looks like she's turning roan. Is there any other possiblity? Neither of her parents are grey, so that's out. Her dam (Amber) is chestnut and her probable sire is bay. Any thoughts? belly shot (girth area)

The coloring is genetic, she gets it from her dad. I believe its Rabicano, but I'm not a color expert.
Khramer has a huge splash on his butt, and white hairs throughout. I thought the splash was regrown coat from rain rot until someone kindly informed me that I was wrong at a big Arab show. ;-)

Love the updated photos! She looks so grown up, and so much like her pretty mother!

Ariel looks gorgeous! I am amazed at how much she looks like Amber! Amber also has white hairs in similar places; it will be interesting to see how that color changes!

Here's a definition that I found that completely describes what Ariel's color is doing, even down to the striping along the ribs: "Rabicano is a white-added color pattern that shows up first in white hairs at the top of the tail of a horse color that normally would not have them. From there usually some degree of roaning, that is, white hairs mixed in with the colored ones in a salt-and-pepper effect, results, mostly on the horse's barrel. Often they form a striping effect, as though the ribs were being defined in white stippling."

Yes, my TB rescue Vanna also is a Rabicano (even more rare in TBs).
