I am a friend of Dr. Hannah's and have been follwing the story of Whisper online and LOVE reading all the happy ending rescue stories on this board and thought I'd share my own. Summer 2007 we adopted a pretty funny looking 2yo little buckskin pony from a local rescue. Although he was too small, had poor conformation, and green we fell in love with his personality and I have a soft spot for buckskins. His story is a little unclear, but it sounds like he was left at an auction, then someone brought him home that couldn't care for him and surrendered him to the rescue when his pasturemate died. This is him winter 2007 when he first arrived at the rescue: This is Bucky when we adopted him August 2007 from Spring Hill (www.springhillrescue.com): And this is Bucky this summer 2008: Bucky starting under saddle: You can see he has blossomed into a beautiful stock-type large pony and is just so sweet and willing. It looks like he will be my next riding horse, I've got him started under saddle and he is doing well. He even has his own website: www.sweetspotfarm.blogspot.com/Training him has been a very rewarding experience. I wish we had more room to take in a foster pony or two right now as the rescue he came from is overfull. ;-) Tammy in Vermont

Bucky is so handsome! What a breathtaking gelding (I have a soft spot for Buckskins too). I love Bucky's Adventures (blog), and his playful spirit. I went to a Jon Ensign clinic in October and had a wonderful experience with my gelding. Jon is a pretty incredible cowboy!

What a cute, confident boy! We can't get enough "ugly duckling to swan" stories as some of the rescues are painful to look at unless you know what is possible.

I have worked with a few rescued horses and *LOVE* the before and after photos, horses are amazingly resilent critters. I really enjoy all the rescue stories, they are especially heartwarming to read to take a break from all the tough cases / sadness this winter.
When we first got Bucky, it was him or an 18yo trained, cute Appendix QH mare . . . for months after we brought him home, I kept saying "what were we thinking?". I felt bad for him, he had a roach back, ewe neck and worst parrot mouth I'd seen. I kept telling everyone, OK this is our rescue pony - don't expect much.
Somehow he transformed into a cute useful pony and I have stopped apologizing for his looks. At the clinic we took him to someone actually asked me about his bloodlines, LOL! I almost fell over. His temperment is wonderful, he has always been very sweet and confident, you can see the same expression in his face in the 1st photo as in the 4th one.

What a great story! He really turned out beautiful. Babies in particular can change so much...you really can't judge a hairy, malnourished baby because they are not yet growing, and with proper nutrition even conformation issues can be corrected. Bucky is adorable (I love buckskins too, although I have never owned one).

Bucky and his new friend, our - adopted yesterday - rescue pony "Sassy". She is unimpressed with his play antics!

He's a beauty! I love the snow on Sassy's muzzle.
