Shiraca is a gray Peruvian Paso/Arabian mare foaled in June 1996, approx. 13.3-14.1h, out of Regala. She was handled a lot in her early years but has not had much if any handling in the last few years. She injured her hip when she was a yearling trying to jump a fence and is probably not sound enough for riding. She moves well on the injury and it does not seem to bother her at all, she may be suitable for driving. She is gaited. SAFE was able to catch her and get her shots and wormed but she was unsure about having her feet handled. She is somewhat underweight at this time. She is somewhat skittish now but has a gentle temperment and was in prior years led around by children. With regular handling away from her current situation she will be a wonderful companion horse. Shiraca is free to excellent home. Reference, adoption contract required. Non-breeding homes only. Located in Arlington, WA. Very pretty! Perfect height, too! I don't see how she is underweight How easy is she to handle? Would she be a good canidate for younger handlers?

She is slightly sunken around her flank area and you can tell she's lost some muscle over her topline. Now that they have hay again they should bounce back quickly.
She used to be led around by the owner's grandkids, but its been several years. She was fairly skittish when we handled her but I think she would come around quite easily. Initially though she'd need to be handled by someone experienced with horses until she is a little more used to being handled.

Shiraca seems to be enjoying having just herself and her brother. She has been low man on the totem and now Shalizar eats with her and even lets her eat out of the grain pan with him. No one nipping or trying to chase her off.

Shiraca is still waiting for her permanant home. She has settled down since she and Amigo are the only horses here now. I am hoping that the right person falls in love with her before winter. She is sound enough to be trained to a lightweight two wheeled cart and would make a beautifull driving horse. I haven't been able to work with her because of my hands.

Shiraca too, has to be put down. The poor feed has been harder on her than Amigo. His weight now, is good, but she still looks terrible. I've been giving her three times as much alfalfa pellets and grain as I give to Amigo, so think something else is probably going on. Will be calling the vet tomoorow to make appointment to have them put down. Will let you know when they're gone so they can be removed from this part of the board. I'm sure you all know how hard this decision and action are.

Shiraca and Mi Amigo were laid to rest yesterday. My sincere condolences to Elaine and her husband. I know that they are now running free in a lush pasture where they have no injuries and no DSLD. And many, many thanks to Elaine for being a responsible owner in the face of less than ideal circumstances, right through to the end.

Elaine and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Tons of hugs and a huge thank you for doing right by them. I will give my DSLD girl extra treats tomorrow in their memory.

I thank all of you who helped, offered to help and have sent your prayers, good thoughts and cyber hugs. To those who thought they said cruel or bad things, please know that I understand the deep feelings for animals. I never took offense at anything I read, but I still appreciate the appologies. I know that Mi Amigo and Shiraca are forever safe and that is the only ease for the course I had to take for them. They live on in my heart and memory. Elaine
