Slew has proposed that we put together a scavenger hunt in Banner Forest to raise money to put Jack into training. Here are the details, as we know them: - location: Banner Forest in Port Orchard WA - date: a Sat or Sun in May - teams of 4 - each team needs a digital camera, a cell phone and at least one person over 21 yrs old - open to horseback riders, bikers, and hikers - items for the scavenger hunt will be found in the woods (plants, rocks, snakes, bears, etc. ) - teams get points for the items they find (more points for more difficult items, like bears) - 2-1/2 hour time limit - highest point total wins - prizes for 1st thru 4th place That's where we are so far! We'll be looking for sponsors for the event, and hopefully donated prizes. Any ideas??? Let's hear em!

ummm........there is a bear in the forest. He/she attacked a person the last part of 2007. It is my belief that he/she attacked because dogs chased him/her, he/she cuffed the dogs and the person went after the bear.... the bear won....but the person got a little mauled. Local law enforcement tried to hunt the bear down.....but the bear got away.
There will be no molesting or otherwise bothering the bear in the woods.....but if you get his/her picture....you get extra points! ;D

Hmmm... doesn't exactly sound like the most inviting woods. Maybe for this one it's not so bad I live on the East Side. All you West Side people trying to get yourselves eaten....

There is a funny story about this........not sure that it is PG enough to share on the website......
THe mauled guy swears the bear was a male, although others have said there were cubs involved........which made most of us root for the bear....if it was a "she" and "she" was protecting her cubs......
but the guy swears it was a MR. Bear and when you hear him tell why, you will die laughing.
I really am sorry he got his ear bit.......but hey, he should have never approached MR or MRS BEAR.
