Alyssa, I can't help this weekend either - but if you can wait a couple weeks, I can get up there the 18th of May (a Sunday) to help.

Hey, no problem, it sounds like everyone is busy this weekend...So far there is 1 for May 18th, anyone else??? Is there a better date?? I was just hoping to be able to get Pie and Isabelle out into a bigger space as soon as possible. Right now they both have free access to private paddocks from their stalls but they could really run around in the pasture BTW, My pony had her foal last night, a colt born at 9:30pm, here is a link to their photo album on photobucket, of course I will be posting more pictures and the video of the birth as soon as I have it ready! s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd28/RavensRanch/Mickey%20and%20foal/

Hey there, I don't have a lot of time to write today but I wanted to give a quick update on Isabelle. I have been lounging her under saddle for the last few weeks and she has been doing awesome, she is a pleasure to work on the ground. I was hoping that she had further training under saddle as well. Last night I saddled her in my western saddle, which fits her awesome, and lounged her just a bit, she didn't even break a sweat. I firmed up the cinch and gently climbed up. I hung over her back with one foot in the stirrup and she stood perfectly still. I swung my leg over and settled into the seat and still nothing. Gave a gentle squeeze, nothing, pulled the rein left, nothing, pulled the rein right, nothing. So although she did not protest my being up there, at the moment, I do not think she has been ridden, perhaps only lead.
In the next week or so, I will keep trying to see what she thinks of me being up there and will eventually have someone lead her if I need to.
So far so good, she is still a bit sore in the back and her stifles lock if she tries to gallop but all in all she is doing really well.
As for Pie, well he is doing awesome, gaining weight every day and is happy, happy, happy.

It is with much sadness that I let everyone know that Pie passed away today. Alyssa called to say that he was doing great, had ate his dinner and his breakfast with his usual gusto, and then laid down in the grass in his paddock for his afternoon nap as usual. But when she checked on him a while later, he was gone. He simply went to sleep and didn't wake up, there was no sign of any struggle at all.
I am sad that I missed seeing him one more time, but also relieved that he never did suffer, that he felt great right up until the end, and he went so peacefully. We never had to go through watching him decline and every day judging his quality of life and trying to determine when the right time was.
Many, many thanks to Alyssa who has taken such good care of him these last few weeks and graciously allowed him to stay indefinitely when we learned his time was short. I know she was prepared for this, but I know from recent experience how it feels when you lose one you have loved and cared for every day, and its never easy.
Goodbye, sweet Pie....

I eagerly await Pie updates and I am so sad to hear this is the final one. However, I am glad that Pie got to go on his own terms and that he had such a grand few months before he left. RIP handsome gent, you stole the hearts of many who never even met you.
A HUGE thank you to all who made his last few months fantastic.

I am so lucky to have had this time with Pie. Regardless of his recent blood work, his passing today was so unexpected. He has been doing so well, he has been eating a variety of foods, drinking plenty of water and looking better every day. I am so proud of how he flourished while he was here. As Jamie stated, today was like any other. He has enjoyed the companionship of my cousin's senior mare for the last week and as usual, they spent the day sunning and napping. After a walk around his paddock, Pie gently laid down for the last time. He stretched out onto his side as usual and quietly stopped breathing. My mom, who has a window just outside of Pie's paddock had been watching him and Abby all day. She watched him lay down and when his chest stopped rising, she called up to me to come check on him. He was gone but still warm and looking as peaceful as I could ever imagine. I rubbed him all over, made sure his body was comfortable and said my goodbyes. He never showed any signs of pain, there was no struggle and he was truly bright and happy until the end. He has lived a long life, I hope much of it was with the kind of love that he received here. I wish he could have told me his story.

I am saddened and joyful for Pie, Pie only knew love and a wonderful life from the minute SAFE took him in, when a few of us saw that Craigs list ad, it spoke to us. I want to personally thank each person who played a part in saving him. Pie left this earth in the most peaceful way possible. His life had meaning to all of us, and he was so loved. Good nite sweet Prince and run free with Ginger and all the ones who wait at the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I am so sorry to read that he is gone. He was truly a fighter and made gallant strides towards a full recovery. Now he is truly running free.

I am so sad to learn of Pie's passing. He was a plucky little guy and I will never forget picking him up with Bonnie and watching him get settled in for a new lease on life at Ginger's. Thank you to Ginger and Alyssa for giving him such loving final months to remove the memory of what had passed before. Godspeed little one.

I am so glad he went out peacefully with a full belly instead of the death from starvation, in the cold and the mud, that was imminent when I first saw him. Thanks to all involved for making that possible. Is Isabella handling it okay?

Isabelle is doing fine, I had moved her to another stall when I got Abby last weekend and she has seemed much happier. Abby and Pie bonded right away and have been spending all of their time together since last Sunday. When it started raining last night, Abby got extremely upset that Pie would not come inside, I stayed with her for quite a while but there was no way for me to console her. One of the signs that Pie was passing was that all o the horses, I have 11 here, stopped what they were doing and stood to face him quietly. I can only hope that myself and everyone I know will know such a peaceful passing. I think that was Pie's greatest gift to me.
