Chelsea, Here is a poem for Heidi, you know I like the Arabian Horse. It has always been my favorite breed. I AM YOUR EQUAL I HAVE HEART, COURAGE AND THE GAME SPIRIT THAT IS MY HERITAGE. I WILL BE RESPECTED. I WILL BE TAUGHT, AND I WILL PLEASE, AND MAYBE IN TIME, I WILL BE YOUR INTIMATE. BUT I WILL NEVER BE YOUR POSSESSION. I HAVE COME FROM THE DESERT WITH ITS CLOSENESS TO THE SPIRIT OF NATURE WHICH YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I WAS BORN OF THE WIND. I CANNOT BE HUMILIATED IN PUNISHMENT OR DEFEATED EVEN IN DEATH. FOR MY SPIRIT LIVES ON.

I found another version of it on a web site.
I am your equal. I am a wild creature that can never be like you. I have heart, courage, and the game spirit that is my heritage, and I will be respected. I will be taught and I will please, and maybe in time I will be your intimate. But I will never be your possession. Mine is a fierce love which knows no mercy for failure, no sympathy for weakness. I have come from the desert with its closeness to the spirit of nature which you do not understand. I was born of the wind, mine is a warrior spirit. I cannot be humiliated in punishment. Or defeated even in death For my spirit lives on in my children's children.

I know, I think it is listed only as an old Arabian proverb. I have one embroidered on the back of my coat too. It says "The Wind of Heaven is That Which Blows Between a Horses Ears". It is also listed as an old Arabian proverb, but could apply to anyone who rides horses.

Very cool in both versions. It makes me think of my mare Paris. She is exquisitely trained but will only give you that kind of a ride if she feels like you have requested it "properly". She can be light as a feather or the hardest mouthed thing you have ever sat on. She will drift and bend to pressure and respond to the slightest cue, or be a frantic wound up lunatic. There is no rhyme or reason to who she likes and will respond to. She loves my farrier and can be trimmed loose in her stall and small children can have their fingers completely surrounding a treat and she will take it so gently they are never in danger- then on the other hand she can be a stark raving lunatic that is quite dangerous if she does not trust/care for her handler. Interesting mare to be sure!

When I stopped by Chelsea's earlier to drop off JR, I got to meet Heidi. I wasn't sure what to expect, as her pictures were very scary. I do not think I've ever seen a horse look so fragile and weak. However, the little girl I met today was feisty and full of an exhuberant love of life. And, she's actually gonna be quite a cutie when she fills out! She's definitely all Arab and proud of it! She's still quite skinny and has lots of weight to gain, but right now she actually looks like a horse! Not a skeleton. Chelsea, you are amazing! I don't know how you do it, but I am in awe! Good job! Here's a couple pics:

Wow!! She does look so much better! Still thin, but there is light in those eyes! She's going to be so pretty when she is healthy again! Good job Chelsea! (see, I knew you were the right person to tackle JR!)

She looks THOUSANDS times better than when I stopped by to drop that blanket off! OH MY GOD! Chelsea, if you need ANY help on groundwork or saddle training for this girl, I am right there for you, but I won't horn in on Juliane's territory if she's got dibs on her.

Are you kidding, Liz? I'm up to my ears in horses! Chelsea is doing a great job with her ground manners and from what she has described, Heidi has come a LONG way. I'm sure she could use some help when it comes to the initial saddling!

I was thinking that we would send her to Monica when she's ready, but if you want to donate some training Liz, I'm all for it!!

I am all for "donating" training, since I don't do any "officially" anyway! ;D I am always looking for opportunities to get my hands on other horses! And Arabs are my WEAKNESS!
Initial saddling, I am SOOO there! Maybe we should set a tentative date for sometime this summer? Saturdays are my preference!

WHAT a DIFFERENCE! And her back legs are clean, that alone is a freakin' miracle. They were so scary when I saw her. Great work - as usual!
