I thought I'd share this new beginning with you about my friend, Kathy in Texas. Here's her rescue, Aries and his story...
"I named him Aries, he needed a name that stood for strength and courage. He was seized by the Shrf dept, he had been beaten and starved, after one year in a foster rescue home they still couldn't get close enough to brush him, they only fed and kept him safe. I got him in April so that helped with the Aries part. His tail...which I kept, had NEVER been brushed so it was in ONE piece..it looked like a baseball bat made of twigs,we worked through that by day 2. He hadn't been halter broken hadn't been touched other than beaten and has a dent across his neck muscle from being hung from a tree. So he stays on the house side of my property with me, sleeps outside my front door every night, taps with his hoof when he wants a carrot, gets his hair brushed twice a day,and yes he even lets me put his halter on. I cry alot when I hug him, cried alot on his birthday sitting with him while he ate, not understanding how someone watched this beautiful boy being born and then let him spend YEARS being tortured. I am amazed how fast he started to believe in me........and honored. He is a registered paint, and will be a beautiful man someday...soon! So THATS his story. We do a little training everyday, he thinks I'm stupid for using a halter and a lead rope,he follows me like a dog, knows his new name, comes when he's called,so the halter thing just doesn't make sense, the first time he saw the lead rope he went insane, spinning and kicking,I took a blow to the leg, he wasn't aiming he was just truly terrified,so we went with out the rope for a while. Now we are working on giving me his feet,so the farrier can come out, but I don't know that he will be able to get next to him,so I may have to do the trimming. As for now he hands me his front left foot like a dog shaking hands..."
"I just wanted to share what my boy looked like BEFORE he found his new life, and then on his birthday.People are bad and I will never ever understand why. Just awful to think there are so many that are even worse off. I guess we do what we can and pray for the others.....doesn't ever seem like enough though does it?"
Here's Aries before
and his birthday on Friday...
