You are in the same boat I am. It's the catch-22 of rescue...you have to keep the unadoptables, so when you have an adoptable, you have to let them go. That's why I own 8 horses and have almost nothing to ride!

well Bonnie and Larry(Parelli's new owner) came and picked him up today. It was very bittersweet as I have come to be very protective of this guy. He was very well behaved and other than banging on Bonnie's trailer to let us all know to quit chatting and get the show on the road he was quite a happy camper. Pat and Larry's place is like a horse heaven and I really liked their quiet gentle handling of Parelli. I know he will be very well cared for and will give them many hours of enjoyable trail riding. I wish all of them well on their new chapter in life. My barn seems to be missing a piece with out his big sweet face peering out of his stall door and his low nicker looking for his dinner.......Paris and JR did their best to fill the gap but Parelli has for sure left some hoof prints on my heart...........

I know that Parelli will have a fabulous home with Pat and Larry. He is going to horsey heaven. All of their animals are so well loved and cared for, though you will miss his sweet face he is going to a fabulous home!

Thanks Mara and that is exactly how I should look at this.......he was a "group adoption" which means that many people pitched in on his bail to prevent him going to slaughter but because of the wording used on the shoes he arrived at the lot with people were aware that he was probably "navicular" and no one wanted to take him on. I actually backed down from taking him due to my out of town work schedule, and Juliane agreed to take him to make my adoption possible. From there I got a hugely overstimulated-from- the-chaos-of-the-lot, sensitive horse that we did not know the soundness prognosis of. Since then he has proved himself to be a superior guy- going from no use for humans at all- to one who seeks attention and from being a resentful, sore horse to one that enjoys being ridden and is a willing partner. I have been priviledged to have him and know after meeting Pat and Larry that they are the ones to continue his life journey in a SAFE (get it? LOL) responsible manner. I look forward to updates!

Congratulations Chelsea! After all, your patience and hardwork waiting for the right home are what made all the difference for Parelli. So exciting to see him on the PLACED board. WOW. I, too, will be anxiously waiting for updates.

just a quick update from the hauler....Parelli made it to his new home safe and sound. He was put into a small fenced paddock next to the main pasture so he could "meet and greet" his new friends: two baby horses, two minis and two mini donkies. All 6 of them lined up at the fence to check out the new arrival. I have some cute photos of this that I will try to post in the morning. But all is well...Pat planned to spent today brushing Parelli and getting in some good bonding time. They are both so happy to have Parelli. He is a super neat horse, Chelsea! You did good.

update on Parelli - the new name is AMADO:
Amado is also doing well. He has seen his new ferrier twice since I talked to you and goes again next tuesday. He is not showing any ill effects at this time. She is optimistic as am I. The weather hasn't been very condusive to taking any pictures recently. Every time we give Amado a bath he immediatly finds a bunch of dirt or mud to roll in. My biggest problem with owning a white horse is keeping him looking clean and he is so good looking when he is clean. I finally finished the last two stalls in the barn so he gets to stay a little cleaner being in most nights. He is a real pleasure to work with. Pat and I ride him as well as one of the children and two of the grandchildren. We even had three new inlaws up on him in august when my daughter get married. The reception was here at the house with over 100 people. We had the horses in the front field and Amado was the hit of the group. I don't know if I told you or not, but we have acquired another horse. She is a 16 hand Tobiano paint. She and Amado get along fine and are in stalls next to each other. If we get a break in the weather and I can get some current pictures I will do so and send them along.

another message from Parelli's adopter: On a couple of occasions you have asked me to update you on Amado. Well, I'm going to do that by directing you to a blog that is authored by the Natural Hoof Care professional that is taking care of him.
He is doing just great. Pat Wagner is the name of the person who is trimming him and she has done wonders as you will see in the blog article. In writing this article, Pat asked me for the backgraound of Amado and I only know for sure what it is since I have had him, so some of his early history may be a little wrong but it is mostly right. In the e-mail that I sent Pat with the details as I know them I gave S.A.F.E. and Chelsea credit for his rescue and turn around but Pat declined to mention Chelsea because she hasn't had an opportunity to talk with her. Anyway, I think he is well on his way to being totally sound. He not only heads the herd now but is right with them at full gallop, something he could not do before. Now if I could teach him not to find the absolute dirtiest place to roll in I would be a happy man. The 6th trim referred to in the article and accompanying picture was this past thursday. Feel free to forward this e-mail to your S.A.F.E. friends as I'm sure it will make their day. This horse is a real pleasure to be around. The blog site is: hoofrecovery.blogspot.com Larry
